We’re taking far too long to realize it’s a cancer for democracies.

@leavex Mhmm, so making communications locked to government-controlled channels will be so much better. The communication channels don't need to be 'protected'. We need public education back.

@andymouse because not being in the hands of oligarchs implies being controlled by the government.

@leavex It's these assholes that are the problem. People using computers to connect is normal, this shit ... not normal and should not be normalized. The tech bros have got to go.

@leavex based Durov for once, yeah if you don't see how Spain's "for the children" tightening of the online space is a constraint of speech (or preparing to be one), you're not taking the matter seriously.
I'm usually pro Sanchez, against Durov. I'm pro Durov, against Sanchez this time

@leavex @andymouse no it doesn't, that's a false dichotomy. I've seen the crackdown on the pro-Palestine protests across Europe last couple of years, I don't trust this assholes with more power

@leavex while we're at it let's age restrict all media that isn't properly assuring fact based reporting and does not offer supervidion to protect vulnerble infividuals.

When anti-democracy billionaires form fake philanthropic ventures like NextLadder Ventures, we know the origins of fossil fuel funded fascism and AI automated malign influence campaigns...
"Bill Gates, Charles Koch, Steve Ballmer, Scott Cook, and John Overdeck are partnering with Anthropic"
Billionaires don't give a darn about "economic mobility".
All they care about is getting & staying rich at other's expense
It's a deregulation push disguised as "charity"

Agreed! Big tech is cancer for democracies and so is censorship, which is why Sanchez fucked up this time. Especially when democracies are under threat we must not blindly accept the false narrative that age gating, blanket social media bans, and mandatory I.D. checks to participate in online spaces is a valid way to "protect the children". That is the language and the logic of authoritarians

You protect children by investigating Xitter, prosecuting Musk for generating child porn, educating children about online risks, and holding big tech to account for manipulation and disinformation.
You don't protect children by banning them from social media and making every body else register they're I,D, to go online. Sanchez has done every body a dis-service by conflating big tech accountability with age gating, and handed Durov the opening to make the better argument

@budududuroiu @andymouse it was ironic.
