@ianbetteridge yeah I’m never going back.

@ianbetteridge I did 4x10 for a year shortly after graduating.
It was a very fun year.
(I know that isn't what you are suggesting)

@ianbetteridge I did it for about 6 years after having children and it kept me sane (and, as far as I can see, didn't affect my productivity). Unfortunately, I had to go back to 5 days for the money. Would go back to 4 again in a flash, if I could. I felt so much more in control of my life..
-
@ianbetteridge just watch it doesn’t affect your pension
@essexman That is a very good point

@cmniciosaig Absolutely. And for me I think it will make retiring easier too - I’m only five or six years off it, and I suspect going from five days a week to zero would be a bit of a shock.

@ianbetteridge yes, good point. While I long for retirement, I can imagine the change would be harder to adjust to than I expect.

@ianbetteridge I'm desperate to find a way to do this. Full time job plus being a carer leaves precious little time and energy for me to be me right now.

@ianbetteridge the company I work for allows a nine day fortnight, as long as the work gets done. A four day week would be even nicer, but it’s a good start and made such a difference.

@ianbetteridge I do but then in my country as a woman you get called “a part-time princess” 🫠

"as long as the work gets done" is NOT working less, it's just more flexibility and if salary is also lowered totally exploitative.

@ianbetteridge @essexman
Honestly, I am more than willing to accept a lower pension (in an far, unforeseeable future) in exchange to a better life right now and during decades. -

@ianbetteridge I honestly think we need to make the 32h work week the new default full time. There’s enough studies that support this change.

@L___ @ianbetteridge salaries didn’t change, and most people find they are more productive during those nine days so there’s been no issue with the work getting done. Everyone likes it.

@ianbetteridge I'm on a 9-day fortnight with compressed hours and highly recommend.

@ianbetteridge I could do that in a previous job and it was one the best career decisions I ever made. Perfect work-life balance.

@ianbetteridge I am on a 5 days x 6.5 hours scheme, but I think the 4 x 8 scheme is more rewarding. A 4 x 6.5 would be even better :D

@ianbetteridge I do not disagree with this, but counterpoint, I stayed at a 7 day week, but all 7 days of those are in a bar, so, who's to say

Best decision I made was getting away from 4 month trips on supertankers to 6 week trips on oil rig supply ships which led to meeting oil company employees who told me they were desperate for ships engineers to man oil/gas production platforms. Applied & got in, weekon/week off to begin with. Result! -

@ianbetteridge
Worked 4-day weeks for a bit on remote construction jobs. It was great to be able to have a weekday free to take care of business. -
