We watched a great adventure documentary tonight about The Race to Alaska, a boat race where the main rule is no motors allowed on board.

There's a race in 2026 and my wife will happen to be on Victoria Island around that time, so she may get lucky and see some of the boats.

@ehmatthes there was some wild stuff that they go through. One pair of brothers learned to sail just so they could race.

@brianb I remember when the race first started. We noticed it, because Ketchikan was just south of us. It seemed like a pretty bold idea to have a bunch of people moving under their own power in those waters!
I did SAR work for a long time, and we'd get calls every year or so to support some new wilderness race. Most never came to pass, and those that started didn't usually last.
We were hoping to see R2AK make it, and I'm so glad they did!
