Integrating AWS Cognito Authentication with NodeBB API (No NodeBB UI)

Hi community,
I’m using AWS Cognito for authentication (sign up and login) across my project, and all user management is centralized there.
Now I want to integrate NodeBB, but I do not want to use NodeBB’s UI for login/registration. Instead, I want to:

Continue using AWS Cognito for user registration and login.

Expose a common backend service (API) that my other modules (and NodeBB) can use for authentication.

Use only the NodeBB APIs (not the UI) to handle sessions, topics, posts, etc.
I’m a bit unsure about the correct approach here:

Can NodeBB rely fully on Cognito for authentication while I interact with NodeBB only through its APIs?

How should I map Cognito users to NodeBB users (e.g., using Cognito’s sub as the NodeBB uid)?

Should I use the session-sharing plugin, or is it better to build a custom integration for Cognito?

What’s the recommended way to keep NodeBB users in sync with Cognito users if I bypass the UI?
Has anyone implemented this kind of API-only integration with Cognito and NodeBB? Any best practices or guidance would be much appreciated.

balu Why are you planning to have the user step through Cognito for authentication if you're not intending to use the NodeBB frontend at all?
If you already have the Cognito user, you could use the NodeBB API (using a master token) to create a user, and store your own association between the cognito id and the nodebb uid.
Then just keep using the master token to make calls on behalf of whichever user. Use the
?_uid=parameter to distinguish calls between different users. -

Per adesso non ti è necessario, pero' può essere una buona idea imparare.
Niente di complicato, si scarica un programma per windows che "prepara chiavette usb di avvio", poi si scarica un file immagine di un qualche linux , e si dice al programma di scrivere quel file su una chiavetta nuova appena inserita.
Se poi riavvii il computer con quella chiavetta inserita, caricherà dalla chiavetta un ambiente grafico di linux, con già tutti i programmi base tipo un browser e un pacchetto office (legale).
Sara' un po lento, avrà poco spazio disco (userà la chiavetta come spazio disco), ma i documenti sul tuo hd saranno al sicuro.
È solo per togliersi lo sfizio di vedere come è linux e scoprire che nellla gran parte dei casi d'uso, quello, o windows, o mac, è la stessa roba.

Ora ci sono questi flatting in cui impregnante e finitura sono insieme, il che per alcuni è discutibile ma per altri comodo.
Dici ogni anno, pigliano tanto sole di giorno e gelo di notte quei legni? Non sono esperto ma dovrebbe starci un prodotto più duraturo.

Anyway. I'm going to stop rambling. I'm grateful for Blender, and I'm grateful that several times when I've met Ton, he's sat down with me and treated me with full seriousness, even at times when I was very young and inexperienced in any of this.

The source of that inspiration is watching the Blender community through the open movie projects put artists, the real users of Blender, right next to developers by making films that push the project to its limits. This leads to many features, many bugs found early, and much engineering effort happening right in Blender in a very direct way that we often just don't see in FOSS.
It's a large part of the reason Blender has become *the best* and now *the default* of its class of software.

Likewise, @spritely is building super ambitious tech, right? It's very low level, and it would be *easy* for it to look like just vaporware, for it to be just academic.
Our solution to that is *directly* inspired by the Blender open movie projects. We ship game jam demos we build using Spritely's tech, like Cirkoban https://files.spritely.institute/embeds/cirkoban/
"Demo driven development", I often say. This makes sure we know that the tech *works*, is fun to use, and gives the community something to try out.

What I mean by "ActivityPub would not have happened" is I mean quite literally, @tsyesika and I, the co-editors of the spec, would not have worked on it were it not for my exposure to the Blender community.
There's a lot of reasons why that's true actually. The MediaGoblin fundraiser that ultimately paid for @tsyesika's work on ActivityPub happened largely with direct mentorship from multiple people in the Blender community. That's just one way.
There are so many others.
