Help me out, Fedifriends

  • Help me out, Fedifriends.

In the last week I've had three different dipships complain that the posts by @blog are too long for the fediverse.

How can I make it more obvious that it is an automated blog syndication account?

Its account is literally `@ blog`.
Its name is "Terence Eden's blog".
Its description says it is a blog.

Should I change the avatar? Add a banner?

Or just accept that some people don't/won't understand that it is a long-form account?

@Edent How important is it to you that Mastodon readers continue to get the full inline text?

There's FEP-b2b8 that resulted from work by long-form AP platforms and the Mastodon team, on a standard to federate long posts with embedded short-form previews. Readers on long-form AP platforms get the whole article, Mastodon shows a teaser and link. Should be a setting in the WP plugin somewhere (right @pfefferle?).

Can't simultaneously have this and full-length inline posts in Mastodon though.

@julian @Edent yes, you can configure the plugin to use the auto-mode. this way, the plugin tries to find the best representation for the content, based on the Post-Format (Article, Status, Video, Audio, ...) the length of the text, if the text has a title or not, ...

For long-form content it sends the excerpt (autgenerated or set in the editor) as summary and the full content as content. This way the receiving instance can decide what to show. btw. Mastodon shows the summary in this case.

    I was close. 4.6 @ 37.866°N 122.252°W, which is ~45mi on I-880, so about ~35mi by way of line-of-sight/bird-route ~56km

Better to have many small ones to reduce pressure periodically. Been through a lot of big ones, 7.2 and 6.8 were most memorable, 3km from the epicenter of both, one week apart from each other with hundreds of lesser ones in between/after.

Watching the ground liquify in the rainforest, then seeing wild horses and every animal from the forest tearing ass down the streets, running down to the beach only to watch crevasses burst from the sand as if on a glacier falling to pieces, massive waves from the ocean careening over the breakers into the bay, then the coral reef lifting out of the water - the scale of it all, the unremittent energy that cares not for any lifeform. All is meaningless in the face of this unstoppable geologic pressure. Tsunami sirens blaring, blaring, blaring.

Jump into the jeep, as quickly as safely affords, head up into the solid hills - not the ones which suffer landslides in the wet season, as far away from the water line as possible, jugs of emergency water and medications tossed in the back seat, blazing hot sun ripping through beautiful stark white clouds - the azure beauty of the heavens streaking through, cobalt turning to grey haze into winds, then the rush of cold Pacific air blasting its way upwards into the hills... a layer of fog sets in. Nothingness. Complete silence. No animal sounds, no car sounds, all ambient audible sound muffled by the dense vapors swirling through the Cloud Forest I had driven into.
