Bush at the start of the Iraq war when MSNBC called him a visionary. He looked pretty lost at the time, I remember -- and we all hoped that wasn't true, we hoped he knew what he was doing. That's when we learned he was utterly hopeless as a chief executive and commander in chief.

BTW, speaking of something futuristic. This is a page rendered by WordPress of something that's in Mastodon because the two products speak ActivityPub. Interop is fantastic, because things like this "just work" once you're hooked up to the same network.

I had ChatGPT put together a list of NBA feeds that don’t use paywalls. It’s been running a few days and the results are impressive. I’ll do a writeup of the list in next few days.

Yesterday I hooked up my feed system to Inoreader via dynamic OPML. The first time I ever made such a connection, now when I subscribe to a new podcast in FeedLand, I’m also automatically subscribed to it in Inoreader. Wish Pocket Casts also hooked up.

that's been my experience too, but sometimes there are little gaps where creative people can reap big rewards. i was in tech for three of those transitions. but they don't last very long.

# Feed discovery 23 years later

I was going to quickly put together a piece on feed discovery, but ended up taking my full moring, going through the web archives to see how it happened, and it was the most web way imaginable.

Ben Werdmuller wrote a new perspective on RSS. It's great, just what we need. RSS is of the web, and is the simplest most obvious way to get all the twitter-like systems connected.

i'm coming at it from outside wordpress, so you will be able to hook up to anything via the api.

he's doing it inside wordpress, which is completely legit and right.

the reason -- there is no diff betw a comment and a post. so you really can build networks that way.

of course. reading rss feeds to flow into blogs goes back to the beginning.

i guess what makes this one so neat is that it's built out of two parts with very little more than connecting glue.

it's as if there's a new OS coming into existence. all it needs is a scripting language, something i think about a lot.

i think evan knows that i have some scripting code around, some even deployed. ;-)

it's kind of the reverse of what the A8C software does, it inhales RSS and exhales it to WordPress.

it's how I connected scripting.com to daveverse.org.

still a few gaps to fill in, that work is being done as part of the Baseline project. see why i had so much trouble explaining it when we started??

there's a lot of stuff working here, there's very little code in this package. ;-)

I've found that the twitter-like social networks I'm part of have slowed down to almost nothing. Have you experienced something similar?
