Ha! It's there and working fine, just like last time I visited, maybe 20yrs ago.

I grabbed a handful of newsgroups. A few seem to be a little bit active. Expect it will be generally quiet.

The rain was forecast to arrive around 8am but hasn't started yet. Must be delayed by traffic.

When I saw the vents under there a few weeks ago I thought "Ugh that looks like several days of work."

I spent a big part of the morning trying to free up screws I could barely touch and couldn't see from close up. Removing the vinyl I discovered a large hole that some cowboy had chopped out instead of proper vent holes.

Lots of cramped work ahead, but I'll be glad to fill that in.

So far no creatures showing up under the deck, as I take a break to get some tools and my computer glasses.

A tight space where you have to look upwards for a task doesn't work too well with progressive lens glasses.

On the positive side the cramped work is like an intensive #yoga session. I'm all downward-dog and child pose all morning.

Aha - Remedy!

You can do shift-CMD-c on MacOS, (prob shift-ctrl-c on win/linux?) and it pops up!

Here's a link to a Q that solved it for me, and how to turn on CC or BCC fields by default as well, if that's useful in your #Thunderbird work.

A work around – I can do shift-Tab three times and <return> and that pops it in.

But four key presses. Ugh. Life is short.

Hey #Thunderbird users - is there a keyboard shortcut to add the cc: field to the message you are composing? Not finding that (yet) in searching.

I know I could click the button, but it's all the way over there, and my hands are on the keyboard just now. Ugh.

A cursory cleaning, but so pleased to see that part of the top level and free of crud.

The filler material came away quite well, as it's thin and brittle. Was happy to get it off and that I was able to free the crack and get the top surface level again!

The wood fibres inside the crack are somewhat discoloured but I should be able to deal with that. Maybe some bleaching (oxalic).

A bit of a win on the most obvious issue with the solid-cedar #guitar top! That big line of light coloured material appeared to be either a failed finish, with water damage to the fibres, or wood filler smeared over a crack.

Under magnification I could see that it was indeed filler. Yay.

Someone had attempted a "fix" by just filling the low side of a split with what looks like the infamous plastic wood. Yikes.

I had a run at it with a dental scaling tool.

I've been gradually accumulating the supplies I need for my experimental rehabilitating of a broken-down old guitar.

I have some parts arriving today. New tuning machines, bridge pieces, and nut.

A rainy day here. Conducive to doing a little planning & prep. I've been doing a humidity raising with the plastic bag treatment to tighten some joints.

A second #watermelon from our garden! We're super happy about getting two edible ones, even if they're maybe a month past the normal harvest time. The squirrels, raccoons or skunks got the first one.

We both agree it's probably the tastiest watermelon we've ever had. I'd like to find a store-bought "sugar baby" and see if that's just a very tasty variety or if ours turned out particularly well.

Started my morning removing the tiniest wood splinter from the tip of my thumb. It was annoying me since yesterday's #carpentry activities.

Good cross-over equipment use! The loupe magnifiers I use for microelectronics are very useful for the task, as are the associated very-sharp tweezers. And the isopropyl alcohol normally for circuit board cleaning is useful for cleaning the tools and micro-wound.

This splinter was sooo tiny yet so annoying being right in the very tip of my thumb.

A #kefir batch completed nicely today. That's seven or eight batches since I started, and I seem to average around ten days between them.

Good results each time now. It works most nicely when the days are cooler, then the cultured grains seem to be at their happiest.

Will make yoghurt on the weekend. Seems like that's needed roughly once a month. Pretty easy to do when it becomes a routine.

Another observation – I think those who don't have the quoot feature yet are treated as if they have set their personal preference to "No quoting allowed" so that they retain control until their instance offers them the feature.

A good choice for the roll-out.

I think I'll leave my toots quootable for now, and see how that goes.

In general I find Mastodonians a pleasant lot with only the thinnest vein of pedantry, obvious-explainers and occasional jerks around, so I hope for good things.
