Go continues to be the best web app building experience I've ever had. Today's enjoyable feature: Crazy good static analysis tools. go vet, staticcheck, golangci-lint, gosec. There's nothing I love more than tests I don't have to write.

Stroganoff was good. Using jarlic caused me to put way too much garlic (not from a flavor perspective, because that's not possible, just from a texture and appearance perspective). But, you can't really go wrong with an umami explosion served over egg noodles.

@matt oh, yeah, i didn't think about that. I knew they used their own toolkit for the GUI, which usually means poor accessibility. Do you know if there are any DAWs that have good accessibility from the vendor without a plugin?I have no experience with accessibility for desktop software, as I've only ever worked on the problem for websites. I should read up on AccessKit, I guess.

Zig with the new Zig backend builds so fast it's silly. Fast compilation is the killer app of a programming language, and Zig is so fast I thought something was broken.

@lontrachen we Linux users pay nothing to not have to deal with Windows or MacOS. (But, here I am spending several days getting a Windows build and thinking about what Mac to buy to build for Mac, because I can't make any money selling software to Linux users.)

OK, I found the case where Zed is not an acceptable text editor...on a VM. It needs (NEEDS) a GPU, and the virtual one a VM has doesn't do the thing. Even VS Code is faster in such a circumstance. I guess I'm still using Neovim.Maybe there's some way to pass-through the GPU? I don't know how GPUs work.

@yonder yeah, I remain surprised by how successful it's been. I like it less than several of its contemporary competitors (I prefer Perl or Ruby, for example, if we're talking language in the same category). I don't hate the language, but I have begun to hate the ecosystem. The constant churn in stuff that really should really be stable (building, packaging, distribution, dependency handling, in particular) makes it so unpleasant to be a maintainer on a bunch of Python projects.

Oh, and fast, too. It's just fast. You don't have to try. You don't have to profile. Your web application in Go is already fast.

It's been a rout over the past decade as Mozilla has retreated from every front.Even if I trusted Mozilla leadership to make decisions on AI, I don't trust they know how to stop the corporate take over of anything.

Hey, so a fun thing about the AI bubble is that agentic AI needs web search APIs. There was a project I worked on in the past, that I would still like to finish, that needed a cheap search API that allows date-based queries, so it could fetch results from the past 24 hours.Historically, this seemingly simple idea was not considered worth implementing by anyone except Google, and they implemented it only for API uses that didn't fit my project.Now? Several. All targeted at AI usage.

@zarfeblong @matt source being findable isn't the same as Open Source. Open Source means you can legally remix and legally sell or give away your new version.You still can't ship a game called "Zork" (trademarks are still protected), but Open Source means the game and story can be repurposed in whatever way you want...and it means it can live forever, even if the owners of the IP decide it's not worth keeping available and playable on current hardware (which has happened a few times).
