After seeing many fediverse servers become unavailable when Cloudflare had outages, I realized that the fediverse already relies heavily on Cloudflare infrastructure. So I thought: why not build fediverse software directly on top of Cloudflare? This project was inspired by Cloudflare Inc.’s Wildebeest project, and it also references some of its ideas and code. The project name, SiliconBeest, comes from my nickname silicon(sjang) combined with Cloudflare’s Wildebeest. I’m still working on making it as inexpensive to run as possible. For now, the goal is to support a small number of users with a small federation footprint on the free plan, and a medium federation footprint on the $5 plan. From an API perspective, SiliconBeest aims to be compatible with both Mastodon and Misskey APIs. The installation process is still being refined, and I’m aware that there is plenty of room for improvement. I plan to keep improving the documentation and deployment flow over time, and related PRs are always welcome.

Un po' di storia: Wordle Su X/Twitter si trovano persone che pubblicano post pieni di numeri e quadratini gialli, grigi e verdi. Si tratta di un gioco chiamato Wordle che consiste nell'indovinare una parola messa a disposizione dal videogioco ogni giorno; la versione originale ha i termini in inglese di 5 lettere e si hanno a disposizione sei tentativi, partendo dalla sola lettera iniziale. Indovinata la parola, si copia il risultato sui social network. Creato nel 2021 dallo sviluppatore Joseph Wardle, si è diffuso su Twitter per poi essere acquistato dal New York Times e ne sono nate parecchie varianti anche in italiano (parle, parolette, parole sante...). Wordle è un programma completamente grafico tastiera compresa, anche se in un gioco di questo tipo la vista neanche servirebbe. Così le persone con disabilità visiva non potevano giocare, finché qualcuno non ha creato l'estensione chrome accessible wordle - in teoria supporta tutti i browser con estensioni, ma se Wordle modifica la propria architettura, l'estensione potrebbe non funzionare più. We have received a Copyright claim from Amazon for our @peertube instance videos.trom.tf/ . Hetzner, the hosting company where we have the dedicated server at, gave us 24h to resolve it.The problem?The video in question, a documentary about "aliens", a garbage piece of content, was NOT hosted on our instance, of course. But since Peertube is federated the idiots sent the claim to our hosting company. Even if UNDER the video you can see that video is "Posted By:" and the instance and username. It takes a few seconds to see where the video is hosted.But who cares...maybe Amazon has "AI Agents" employed and they simply find a video of theirs on a URL and see the IP of that URL and submit a Copyright claim to the hosting where that domain is registered?!Bunch of idiots.But it is very concerning the fact that they can do these and we, the ones who hosts (and for free for that matter), need to quickly "fix" these things even if the claim has nothing to do with our server.We eventually had to block that URL, thanks Peertube for allowing that, else these idiots cannot understand that it was not us who were hosting that video.#peertube #fedi #fediverse
