  • @tris Soatak is an expert in cryptography. I’m not. I’m more than happy to stand on the shoulder of giants when it comes to E2EE. That’s why we used the Signal Protocol 10+ years ago for and are now looking towards . However, good, interoperable protocol design is so much more than just E2EE. And maybe I've learned a thing or two about protocol design in my career that they don’t necessarily know.

  • @tris there are three actively developed protocols for federated instant messaging (XMPP, Matrix, Deltachat). At least one of them is very open to new developers and new ideas and has a structure in place to collaboratively work on those ideas and bring various stake holders together. With no disrespect to that individual I don't see why there needs to be a forth protocol loosely based on ActivityPub.

  • @daniel Ah, fair, their work for E2EE Fedi looks interesting: https://github.com/fedi-e2ee/public-key-directory-specification

  • @tris two things: I already said in my follow up post that if someone wants to build their own clients on top of XMPP and prefers MLS over OMEMO, the XMPP community is very open to that. A protocol is much more than just the encryption. They would still benefit from all the other things XMPP has solved.

A lot of what's in that blog post is ill-informed and bordering on disinformation and fear mongering.

  • @dragospirvu75 @matrix @delta @lazarus The way to achieve interoperability is to stop reinventing the wheel and agree on one standard. Implementing three protocols is completely unfeasible and unnecessary. This worked 20 years ago with MSN, ICQ and AIM when IM protocols had a lot less features and no E2EE. Doesn’t work today.

    >>> CONECTION ISSUE <<<Please boost and help to improve the connections in the fediverse* please scroll up for more information@support @retech @staff Hello defcon.social support, Thank you for your great commitment, whenever you are approached you immediately appear like the Cavalery! I will attach the next accounts where I notice these disturbances of the federated connections as links to this thread and if other defcon.social and/or fediverse users notice such disturbances, it would certainly be useful if they also announce this attached to this thread. It doesn't have to be screenshots like in the previous posts, with those I just wanted to show what it's about.#mastodon #fediverse #pixelfed #activitypub #issue

@julian i'd say the confusion is primarily that we've shifted topic around several different things and i'm still not sure which is the intended topic of the discussion :x- deleting posts that are in a thread- removing posts from a thread- implications for downstream posts in a thread when some ancestor in the reply chain is deleted/removed- deleting a thread that is in a forum- removing a thread from a forum- moving a thread to the "uncategorized" forum- ...?

Just over a year after Go's OpenAPI generator let me down, the #ActivityPub Content-Type causes the same problem again, this time in Python:example_client/api/default/put_object.py:34:62: SyntaxError: Simple statements must be separated by newlines or semicolons   |33 |     _kwargs["json"] = _body34 |     headers["Content-Type"] = "application/ld+json; profile="https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams""   |                                                              ^Is it really that unusual to include parameters in MIME types like this? I'm sure I've seen them all over the place.Or am I venturing off the beaten track by trying to be explicit about them in my openapi.yml file?#ActivityPubDev #BangHeadHere

silverpill@mitra.social I have been reflecting on the use of Remove/Move vs Update and I am thinking that Update isn't explicit enough. If I am removing a topic from a category, I'd be sending an Update with the group actor removed from the audience property. However recipients wouldn't know which audience was removed, merely the new state of that context's audience.
