  • Andrew Kay (novaTopFlex) is currently in multiple ongoing philosophical arguments involving Alexander Kingsbury, Mojo, and MrLee on Mastodon, all under a common core of shared beliefs for—or against—capitalism. While novaTopFlex fears infinite growth and the criminalization of genuine friendship and authenticity as well as forced conformity to traditional roles in society, Kingsbury claims that capitalism contains no demands for infinite growth nor for related concerns. In addition, Mojo and MrLee have identified common concerns regarding the erosion of community and empathy in a society that prides wealth accumulation as “success.”

  • How to Install on VPS (8 Step Quick-Start Guide)

This article provides a guide for how to install Pixelfed on Ubuntu VPS.

  • I’m setting up the ActivityPub Fuzzer. What’s not clear to me is whether or not this thing can run over localhost on two different ports or whether a proxy is required.

  • It would be one thing if I had no proof. If I were just a random making wild claims without any documentation, of course, that would be nonsense.

But I have proof. I have seen this first hand and even took the risk of sharing things from work to back up.

This place is supposed to be better than Blue Sky, Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit --- Right?

If so, why embrace and protect scammers as if they were a protected class of people?

  • Unfortunately, the administrator at social.tchncs.de is a coward.

It is not racism or sexism or discrimination of any kind to call out a confirmed scammer.

What is happening is Gaza is awful. I have never wavered on this fact. What Israel has done to these poor people is a crime against humanity.

But so is a scam trying to make itself as support. That too is an injustice.

I need a site that will ignore such nonsense. When there are photos and videos proving there is a scam, and it is not just a wild claim, it should be upheld.

If Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter can recognize this as a scam (with proof). Surely, so can the Fediverse.

  • @thisismissem

I read up on Interaction Policies. They're a great idea, but it looks like these are requests that only work if other servers enforce them.

I'm suspicious of things like this that can't be enforced beyond my own server because (as we've seen too many times) only the good guys will follow the rules, leaving the bad guys with an unfair advantage.

  • @thisismissem Yes, you're raising some important points that we should cover. And, it's easy to see the potential for someone to post harmful content on a map.

But I don't see it being any different from posting harmful content in any other medium they have. Witness the dude live tweeting celebrity plane locations.

Fundamentally, people *should* be able to talk about others behind their backs. Maps or not, if they post data they shouldn't, then it's probably an issue for server mods, yes?

I'm thrilled about the launch of @altstore's support for ActivityPub. Welcome to the fediverse! This integration will enable you to follow updates from your favorite apps and their developers right here on your fediverse timeline. You can see their server's local timeline here, to get an idea of what that looks like: https://explore.alt.store/public/localTo me, this represents an innovative and exciting new way to spread the social web to new and different kinds of apps and services. What should we make social next??And a heartfelt thank you from the @Mastodon team to AltStore for their generous donation 💞https://techcrunch.com/2025/10/07/alternative-app-store-altstore-raises-6m-connects-with-the-fediverse/#Mastodon #Fediverse #ActivityPub

@julian @box464 There's actually already an Android app that allows all this: Raccoon for Friendica (which actually also works for Mastodon).Raccoon for Friendica is a rather unique app, one I'm very fond of, because it perfectly illustrates how the best ideas come from the "contamination" of different environments. Here's an article about Raccoon that should be updated, which I wrote a few weeks after the app's beta release (launched in late August 2024)Raccoon for Friendica was developed by @akesiseli after he had already developed an Android client for Lemmy (Raccoon for Lemmy). When he focused on Friendica, he faced the problem of how to translate Friendica's ability to display group conversations into an app (they're quite visible on Friendica's web interface, though they don't have the clearest interface possible like Lemmy's or forum platforms like NodeBB and Discourse). He ported the "topic view" feature already present in Lemmy's apps to Friendica!Since Raccoon is an app that also works with Mastodon, @akesiseli attempted to "force" Mastodon to have the same interface, and after a few attempts, he succeeded perfectly.Raccoon for Friendica still has a few imperfections (search isn't 100% functional, it still doesn't handle resharing with quoting, and other minor glitches, and feed capture is still a bit slow compared to Tusky and Fedilab), but despite being just over a year old, it's a decidedly mature app. Most importantly, it offers group viewing features that no other app offers. And—trust me!—group viewing isn't the only new feature Raccoon has brought to a social media client!I hope the app's development continues well, although I'm a little concerned: the developer is a bit disappointed that almost no one uses his app... But this is mostly due to the fact that the app has a name that appeals to Friendica users (who are very few) and that even the most established apps for Mastodon suffer from competition from an "official" app!
