Digging more into the Austrian Military's switch from MS Office to Libre Office. The money side is fascinating. They acknowledge that training and getting accustomed to the new interface will consume any savings in the first few years. To me, that speaks to how realistic they view this project and that it is more than just a money-saving attempt. Let's make sure we see more of these projects in the future.

@yuki2501 add single or ystemd.unit=rescue.target to the kernel command line from grub, that should work
or if anything you can boot from a CD and chroot to your Ubuntu install

@yuki2501 Well, I'm not a Linux guy, but maybe you could boot from a LiveCD, mount the root file system, chroot, passwd - in other words, create a password for root (I have one, I don't understand why there shouldn't be one :) ).
