http://82mhz.net/posts/2026/03/mastodon-bluesky-x-instagram-is-not-the-right-platform-for-posting-long-form-content-a-blog-is/@82mhz I agree. I've decided to use an hybrid approach: a blog post that will also be "posted" by snac. So people can:
- come to my blog and read it there
- read it (entirely) using their RSS Feed reader
- read it from the Fediverse, using their own instance and their own appBut yes, the best place for long posts is a blog.

http://82mhz.net/posts/2026/03/mastodon-bluesky-x-instagram-is-not-the-right-platform-for-posting-long-form-content-a-blog-is/@82mhz Completely agree with you. I get bored reading a threaded post. I rarely give them any attention. If you need to write more than the Mastodon crippling 500 character limit, pick a better fediverse server. Mine has a 5,000 limit. I've never used anywhere near that, but it gives me more scope to say a little more.
People should definitely get a blog. It's easy and cheap/free.
Quoting your good self: “it also makes rediscovering this content almost impossible". Absolutely true. Why put all that effort in to a thread that will soon disappear down a never ending timeline, to be lost in the bowels of socials.

@clare_hooley @82mhz I would not click into substack if my life depended on it.

@daj yes, there are really good things there, but the most I will do is the RSS. They def. aren’t getting my email or even more my cash.

Markdown is Javascript of writing, and reading it on short text media just adds to the frustration.

@mms True. I'm always surprised how much stuff there is in HTML5. But I mostly stick to the basics to keep the site readable on old and tui browsers as well.

@clare_hooley
That's the most annoying thing... if they at least posted the link at the top. And had their blog somewhere other than substack ;) -

@stefano I think that's a good approach that you've chosen, having a separate profile only for the posts, so peope can choose to follow or not, but you're not cluttering up the timeline with 14 individual posts per blog post.
I always get the link to your posts via RSS and then come to your site to read. Then I come back here to shitpost about it 😜
