Where do we stand on CWing insects?
-
@enriquericos the thing about CWs is that they are literally harmless
so whenever there's a question, CWing is a good idea
and especially when it's something about which phobias are named and/or reasonably common. like insects, or arachnids. (or heights, for that matter)
so yeah. take the two seconds, add a CW. there's no algorithm here that will suddenly not show your posts if you CW them; there are just a whole lot of people, at least some of whose days you can make better - or just avoid actively making worse.
if that isn't motive enough to use CWs, i don't know what to tell you. other than you might be on the wrong side of the fediverse.
@millihertz Noted, thank you.

@enriquericos thank you for helping 💖
@LuluHelle Of course,I don't want to cause distress to anyone.
I like insects and wouldn't want to contribute to stigmatizing them, but people come first.

@enriquericos
It appears that fear of spiders is a specific thing and different from general distaste and unease with insects.So, if I post a spider picture, I CW it. And if I post a picture of an insect, I tag it # insects and don't CW it.
Trying not to freak people with spider fears and enabling other people who prefer to filter insects out of their feeds to do that.

@colo_lee I always CW spiders, no question about that. You are doing the same thing I'm doing, except I'll CW an insect if I feel it could cause distress to anyone.
Anyway, I just wanted to see how people feel about it now, it's been some years since I adopted that policy. Thank you!

@enriquericos HAH... I read that as C-Wing Insects... those sound pretty neat.

@doofus_canadensis I'm sorry, English not being my first language... I don't get it 😅

@enriquericos I read your question as C-Wing (like a type of ship in Star Wars) instead of CW-ing.

@doofus_canadensis 😂 Unforgivable, I do know what a C-Wing is, of course, but I didn't make the connection.
I'm sorry I ruined your very valid joke. -

@enriquericos note that you can mark media sensitive, hiding it behind a click, without adding a CW/hiding the text as well
this was my initial rule for flipping.rocks, but it was very unpopular, so i changed it to "not mandatory, but at least must have descriptive text or hashtags so people can filter it if they want"

@nev I should have looked at what you do. Your system doesn't upset people, right?
