Today I had to make a purchase. While looking into it, I discovered that a European electronics chain had the same price as the well-known group that delivers things to your door. I placed the order. Five minutes later, the item was ready for pickup. In the afternoon, I went there at my leisure. No risk of loss or theft, no courier tossing it into the garden without care. A kind young man handed it to me and innocently asked if I needed help setting it up. All at the same price, but with many more smiles and the awareness that I contributed to my “neighbor’s” paycheck.
The older I get, the more I believe that true modernity is valuing human connection.

@stefano I had the same kind of experience when I bought my acrylic parts. 10:00 purchase on there website. 15:00 got a phone call to ensure shipping information was correct and if something needed to be amended. 18:00 received a confirmation email that the shipment has occured. 11:00 the next day, got a call from the guy that was waiting for me downstairs.
Best experience ever.

@d10c4n3 @andre123 questo dipende molto dal cosa si intende per immortale, perché ad esempio se l'unica cosa di cui sai che non morirai è la vecchiaia, il dubbio di poter morire di altro (inclusa la morte termica dell'universo) rimane.

Oltre alla questione sostentamento (non puoi morire di fame ma la soffri lo stesso?) e quelle "burocratiche", credo che un nodo fondamentale sarebbe quello dei figl*, o più in generale la riproduzione umana.
Si è condannati a veder morire la propria discendenza? O anch'essa è immortale e si procede fino a saturazione delle possibilità di sostentamento? La riproduzione avrebbe lo stesso senso e significato se si vivesse per sempre? O chi è immortale è anche sterile? E se fosse l'immortalità, e non la vecchiaia, ad essere una malattia?
È un'idea che offre molti spunti interessanti, e non è un caso che sia esplorata in tanti racconti fantastici. :)
