@TazPoltorak @Bfordham some toy machines cheat by only being able to make a chain stitch instead of the lockstitch used by modern¹ machines: those aren't really sewing machines, they can't be used to follow instructions designed for sewing machines and I'd recommend staying away from them even as a “starting” machine, because they really aren't one.the main issue being that the chain stitch unravels, and using it to make functional garments will require a lot more handsewing and different techniques that those used today.as the first sewing machine ever built, they were time saver when sewing meters and meters of ruffles on a 1850s dress, when you were used to sew 1840s dresses by hand, but really, sewing machine technology has moved on :)¹ i.e. since the second half of the 19th century :D

Second craft show ever - Stress!!Sold a few things so not a total bust. Need to work on better displays, I think. While packing up after the show the one figurine that was just the original mold and *didn't* have the additional round base poured for the bottom of it was toppled by my husband, fell to the floor, and broke. That's a sign to *always* supplement the original mold with a stable base for them, I suppose. #CraftShow #Handmade #HandCrafted #Sewing #Craft #Art #FediArt #MastoArt

@sinituulia I use my tailor's sausage for ironing sleeves because the sleeve board is way too big, but 100% relatable!(also, the sausage needs to be put in from the armscye side, because one end is too big to fit in the sleeves anyway)

Skirt on the waistband! Can't wait for kiddo to try it on so I can check level and make sure it hangs well without the pillow doing weird things It's just 3 straight panels of 60" inch wide fabric. The arrangement of box pleats was faaaar trickier than I had anticipated. Victorian waistbands are surprisingly sloppy by modern standards. The extra fabric is just folded down and hangs inside the skirt, adding bulk for the waist spring. Trooper as always immediately hides under the hoops. He gets super excited when a hoop skirt is set up. Loves dashing in and out.And yes, he will play hide and seek under the skirt while it is being worn.#sewing #HistoricalCostuming #CatsOfMastodon
