Using my GoToSocial account and its glorious 5000 character limit to clear the air about #WSocial and my opposition to it / why I want to speak up:

Yes, I'm well aware there are bigger problems in the world but the battle I picked is: rebellion against techbros / promotion of FOSS and the fediverse.

@_elena What is the essence of these 5,000 characters? I don't see any criticism of W. formulated there. They're not even at the starting line yet. So we'll have to wait and see anyway.

@zotheca @_elena I think this post was just a defense of writing the post later on about W Social, and because Mastodon has a more strict character limit. This isn't the criticism post of W Social.

@zotheca sorry I meant that I wanted to use my GoToSocial account to share my PLANS for a blog post about WSocial... because I hate writing threads and I wanted to put everything in one post.

The article will be published next week on my blog: blog.elenarossini.com - and if I'm chaotic neutral, shared via an awesome URL I just grabbed (the wsocial peeps were amateurs and didn't register related domains)... I'm the proud owner of one - wsocial [dot] country code - that I could set up as redirect

Sounds like the typical boring Fediverse: ATProto is the enemy.

@ErickaSimone thanks Ericka! You can actually set the character limit you want on a self-hosted GoToSocial. 5000 is the default but you could probably increase it too 🤗 I love it

@zotheca Why do you say that? It's a pretty wild projection. The crux of my objection is with their complete disregard for EuroSky, the insistence of government ID and their terrible security

@_elena Yes, it's a complex issue.
I'm sure that if more people in the Fediverse had to show their ID, we would have less anti-Semitism, glorification of terrorism, and hate.
But I understand the objections.

@_elena As far as EuroSky is concerned, I'm not yet sure whether it's really ignorance. However, I agree with your observation on that point; it certainly looks as though something is going to be launched in a few months that EuroSky is supposed to offer already. But even there, there are only promises at the moment, and they won't meet their deadline.
