Another week, another battery replacement. This is my previous smart phone. I meant to replace the battery just over a year ago, but moving houses got in the way.
Catching up now.
The dreaded glue challenge of modern phones, really makes you work for it. This old phone is destined for workshop camera uses mostly.
Yay! I'm in. That's the tough part. Now about 37 screws of salt-grain size.

@ottaross I've replaced the glass on iPads several times. It's a PITA.

Got all the screws out and I'm heating the battery through the front glass with a heat pack.
Sore backs and cell phones both yield to the ol' heat pack.

I've had success with the glue on google pixel phones using the bed of my 3d printer to heat them up (never tried it with apple however)

Whew, they really went to town with the glue for the battery pack.
Glad it was showing less than 5% charge when it started, as I wouldn't want to crank the thing out of there like that if it were a fully loaded lithium-poly grenade.

@RantingCanuck That's a good idea! I have a few spare print-bed heaters, I should rig one up with a power supply and make it a dedicated glue-softener.

@ottaross There was an HTC One model I adored, but the idiots had glued the battery to the back of the *screen* so the job of replacing the battery was just too daunting, perhaps even impossible. No wonder they stopped making phones. What a great phone though. So light - with a curved back that fit exactly in my hand. The only mobile phone I've ever liked.

Was worried that after sitting for 18 months with me, and no doubt in a warehouse before that, the (albeit-low) self-discharge of LiPo cells might've depleted it down to nothing.
Can package it up again. Whew.

@LillyHerself Ugh, yeah heating through the glass and then prying might be challenging.

Old moto phone is fully reassembled without any leftover parts. The new battery is taking a charge, so I think I'm in the clear.
This phone works well with my USB endoscope camera, so one of my motivations to catch up here is to use it for a challenging gluing step planned in that guitar-repair project I'm picking away at.
That last discharge curve looks pretty terrible. š
