I am still in #SanFrancisco.
Tomorrow, Eli is visiting friends that they know through Second Life.
I will spend the morning in Chinatown, trying different dim-sum places.
So I #askfedi -- what should I do if I have a long afternoon in San Francisco and I'm on my own?

@Chip_Unicorn it’s quite a touristy thing to do, but it’s great fun to rent a bike and then ride it across the Golden Gate Bridge down to Sausalito and then take the ferry back again. Obviously taking your time to explore and hang out as you go. :)

@Chip_Unicorn I point you in the direction of Musee Mechanique, out by Pier 41-ish; bring quarters.

@Chip_Unicorn If you have time, Cayuga Playground is a delight. Full of wood sculptures made from fallen trees, recently restored.

@Chip_Unicorn Well, the traffic and distances might be a problem, but I used to like to go to Fisherman's Wharf. Ghirardelli Square, assuming it's still there, had some interesting shops.
Could stroll through the panhandle part of Golden Gate Park, or check out shops in the Haight, which feeds into it. I think all of the weird people and places are less weird or gone now. One club would throw you out if you even so much as hinted about ordering anything other than a Manhattan, but the crazy owner passed away.
The most important thing is finding someplace that will let you use their bathroom. I had to buy food at one place, which a gas station sent me to, or they wouldn't let me use it, all because the ones at the gas station were closed. Pick a touristy area, lol.

@Chip_Unicorn The Cable Car Museum is free, fascinating, and a short walk from Chinatown. You'll see the engines powering the cables, the repair barn, and, underground, the cables running under the streets.

I am staying near Pier 41! That idea is excellent! -

@Chip_Unicorn Depends what you're into, but a few thoughts:
* Mural alleys in the Mission. Clarion and Sycamore are the best-known, and are next to each other; Balmy is also very cool.
* Land's End and the Sutro Baths ruins are absolutely lovely, but transit would take a while.
* Check out the Castro? 🏳️🌈
* The Exploratorium is a fabulous, interactive science museum on Pier 15.Anyway, enjoy your time in San Francisco!
