Welcome Hannah! There are lots of very interesting people here. You are responsible for finding your folks.

What I do is when someone posts something interesting, I tap on their avatar image left of their screen name at the top of their post and look at their profile page. If they seem like interesting people, I follow them. If someone turns out to be not who you thought, you can unfollow them later. Follow lots of people starting out.

I have to admit that I feel conflicted about what you're asking about. If I see some encouraging initiatives within the #EU on #openSource and more interest on the Fediverse, I believe EU opposition to a less controllable paradigm, like a federated network of instances, is incredibly strong.
Just a few weeks ago we were all signing petitions and contacting PMs to dismiss the #ChatControl proposition. That was a really close call.

How do we fix that first?

@hpod16 The reactions to your arrival here have been amazing, it seems people really want more EU in the Fediverse 😅

Recently, a group of MEPs wrote a letter to the EC about promoting Europe-based social networks. I think Mastodon is already primed for this role, we just need more active users (from institutions and politicians as well).
