I am becoming more and more frustrated with how Mastodon behaves towards the #ActivityPub ecosystem.
After I finish with the current plans I have for GoActivityPub I have to push into making #ONI good enough to be used as a daily driver fediverse profile and switch to that.
I'm not entirely sure the inbox model of social consumption is good enough for others, but I think for me it'll have to be enough.

@achim tl;dr Mastodon has zero intentions of bringing their implementation of ActivityPub up to spec.
I had a rant at the CTO of Mastodon a couple of days ago where I mention some specific examples, and how they affect *my* activitypub implementation.
That was triggered by one of the blog posts they made recently where they "we recognise they are also part of the broader Fediverse" but do nothing for actual compatibility, which got me to call him out on the lie.

@achim so basically after waiting almost three years to see any kind of constructive decision made about my ticket, I think I'm finally ready to accept that Mastodon has no intention of going past their Embrace, Extend and Extinguish approach to the ActivityPub protocol and the fediverse.
They shown no intention of supporting the other services in the Fedivserse, and care only about compatibility with themselves.

Yes, very likely.
When I built the core software for a bank more than a decade ago, I did the same.

There isn’t anything that says my server should return the latest known state of a post, including my interactions with it.
And sure, I can refetch any activity from the inbox via proxyUrl (except non-public), but nothing guarantees my server will add the current remote state of a post to its internal representation and return this.
So this forces a thick client situation, to have what should be fairly standard User Experience.

ActivityPub client developer experience is something like this.
Building a coherent feed with stateful objects requires comparing an Activity from the inbox, with what’s in your outbox.

AFAIK, it is an IETF JSON thing, and wasn't part of the original (pre-IETF) JSON.
Here's the oldest version of the JSON spec I could find:

It defines "number" as in the screen-shot, and doesn't say anything about floating-point numbers.

I do agree with you that the reason IETF JSON talked about floating-point numbers is almost certainly because of JavaScript.

@reiver that's a json thing, which is itself a JavaScript thing. JS doesn't have an integer type, only number, which is a double precision floating point. Json is a serialization spec for JavaScript objects, and jsonld is spec for pretending that adding one property to a json document makes it a collection of rdf triples and then getting mad about it when the rest of the world just wants things to be parseable
