  • I’m building a new tool and looking for volunteers to test it! A linktree.

It’s designed for two types of people:

Normies / newcomers – Think of it like a free, privacy-respecting Linktree. No trackers, no ads. But here's the cool par: it's a Trojan horse for the fediverse. Your profile link is itself an ActivityPub actor. That means people can interact with it directly in the fediverse, and it encourages exploration of open platforms.

Fediverse users, If you have multiple accounts (, , Loops, a federated blog…), you know the struggle: sometimes you just want one persona to follow. This tool gives you that. It doesn’t post on its own (read-only), but it boosts all your other accounts and even has its own inbox. PLUS it can receive and show your badges issued by @badgefed !

    Interested in testing? Reply here.

  • @raphael @mariusor @steve @evan Your example is incorrect because activity types are not like HTTP verbs. Like and EmojiReact are part of the same protocol, both are widely used in Fediverse. Not sure what is the point of twisting the meaning of words to make limitations of certain software appear as non-limitations.

I'm really not following this logic: you are saying "a generic HTTP server should be able to serve WebDAV requests".

Yes, HTTP servers should be able to serve WebDAV requests, *provided* they implement the extension.

It doesn't mean that they *have* to implement the extension. And an HTTP server that does not support the extension does not make non-HTTP compliant.

  • @johannab@cosocial.ca asks:

    > NodeBB strikes me as the best aligned of the extant platforms for municipal governments. Here's a question for julian: is he prepared for, or interested in, a promotion program to city-scale organizations?

To which I answered, simply: "Yes."

Now that I have the time to expand on my answer:

Yes, absolutely! There is definitely a space for municipal city-scale adoption of the fediverse through properties that they alone control, but federate widely. [...]

I imagine a local-fedi where my mayor posts via olivia@toronto.ontario.gc.ca, and she can talk to her constituents on neighbourhood-level instances like bloorwest.social or danforth.space, or anybody worldwide via the power of the fediverse.

Right now we're in the unfortunate position where the city is posting notices to X/Twitter, and cross-posting to Facebook and Instagram. I would bet a lot of money most other municipalities are doing the exact same thing. Adding in the fediverse should be straightforward, and I welcome any opportunity to make it happen.

    Let's make some connections!

  • Currently sitting on a train from Montreal to Toronto, and what are the odds that I end up sitting next to a couple of people (Gen Zs, if it matters) discussing the exact thing that I travelled to Montreal for — to talk about the state of social media and its effects on our day-to-day lives?

Their conversation has ranged from the inauthenticity of communication, the masking that one needs to do online when maintaining a social profile, optimizing for engagement (and the active refusal to do so for authenticity reasons), curating what one posts to social media, etc.

Sometimes when discussing these things online or at a conference one feels like they're in an echo chamber of sorts. It's nice to know that the next generation thinks about these things just like I do.

Maybe the odds aren't that low, maybe that discussion is happening all around us, more often than we think.

Our initial clients will be built in JavaScript, so you’d need to enable JS on your browser to use it (for now)And, it will require special features on your server, so this won’t work on Mastodon (for now)Download the road, things will change. We’re defining a standard API that anyone can build in. So hopefully someone can built installable clients (iOS, Android, desktop) that work separate from your browser. @ddlyh @bonfire @swf @sovtechfund

Just had dinner – Manchurian and Noodles. My brother’s exams got over today so a party of sorts. Tomorrow we have a ritual at home so wondering how it will all go as it will be fully packed and the meal prep has already started for tomorrow. By 3 pm I will be free. This morning felt a bit cold like again but not very much. Ugh! The weather! I hope it fades away quick whatever it is – the remaining. Tomorrow there are going to be ladies arriving for Pooja and then all family members to pray to goddess. I find all of the jazz so overwhelming and tiresome lord. I just want to rest and chillax. But obligations etc. Ugh! I hope strings of moments will pass through and I’ll be in Monday awaiting the November months weekend …Le sigh! I did my new moon journaling today. Late but did it. Tried to get off AI features on gmail etc and had lots of emails in my inbox stacked. Unsubscribed to tons! What the hell is going on with giant companies. Holy cow!

Summer/Autumn 2025: Little coding, but lots of socializing and planningAt the first October weekend I (@linos) was attending the Berlin FediDay 2025. It was a meetup of the Berlin and German community, developers of Fediverse applications, and representatives of German speaking media institutions. It was great to see old friends again and meet some online contacts for the first time. We were discussing the future and the role of the Fediverse, which was super motivating. #FediDayTwo weeks later, I travelled to Sofia, Bulgaria, to attend this year’s OpenFest, give a talk and lead a workshop on how the Fediverse can help announce and discover events. Unfortunately, the talk didn’t attract much attention, as LLMs are currently drawing more of an audience. But the discussions with those in attendance were very interesting. The workshop was mainly about trying out #Gancio, #WordPress and #Mastodon and learning about the possibilities for local communities by trying out the applications themselves. I simply provided real test instances, created a list of tasks, including minor pitfalls, and, of course, answered all the questions that came up – and there were quite a few! And a big thank you to the crew and the organizing team, who were so friendly and simply wonderful throughout. #OpenFestYesterday, I had an awesome online meeting with the incredibly cool folks behind LAUTI, a free and open-source software for hosting small event calendars. #LAUTI is aimed at small and medium-sized communities and has a big focus on social, cultural and activist stuff. The instance for the Stuttgart area, run by the collective that develops it (@klasse_methode@chaos.social), can be found at https://einftopf.info. The developers are in the process of exploring the potential of #ActivityPub and the #Fediverse. I’m very excited and think this could be really great! In case you’ve been wondering: I see LAUTI kind of in between #Mobilizon and #Gancio. In my opinion, it would not be a competitor to them, but it could be a great addition to the Fediverse by filling this gap.I will be at the #SFSCON in Bolzano, Italy, in two weeks. There will be a whole afternoon focusing on the Fediverse! So in case you’re there you’re invited to join my short talk about Interoperability of Events in the Fediverse: status quo and vision. Or you’re welcome any time to say hello and let’s have a chat. After that, it’s time to sit down and get back to programming. But it’s very important to me to continually evaluate and understand what the priorities are, and to remind myself why it’s so important that we all continue our work in this area.#ActivityPub #FediDay #Fediverse #Gancio #Lauti #Mastodon #Mobilizon #OpenFest #SFSCON #WordPress

@grishka @rimu putting the version in the uri is an older convention and not necessarily a REST(ful) thing either. what i've seen is to use content negotiation via an Accept-Version headerbasically if you use conneg then 405 Not Acceptable; if you put versions in uris then 404 Not Found; if you take some parameter or payload then i guess maybe 422 Unprocessable Entity?
