My plans for the week:
-
@eclecticpassions thank you Naty, it's great to know this! I was a little sad my old (and slow) Raspi 3 has been sitting on a shelf doing nothing... I hope I can find some use for it with DietPi
@elena @eclecticpassions I am running 2 Home Assistant instances on 2 Raspi 3s for years and I am more than happy.
May I ask, if you do backups regularly for all your services? (Raspis can also be low key NASes, just saying, not to suggest another project π) -
My plans for the week:
βͺοΈβ install #DietPi on my old #RaspberryPi3 (https://dietpi.com)
βͺοΈβ flash the #YunoHost pre-installed disk image to a new MicroSD card and attempt to set it up on on my #RaspberryPi5
βͺοΈβ if I'm successful, I'll set up #Jellyfin on it
βͺοΈβ create a little storage system for my microSD cards so I can swap them in and out (I won't wipe the one that has #Ubuntu on it, but set it aside so I can use it in the future)I have a hunch I will ask π β for a new Raspi this coming Christmas... maybe the #RaspberryPi500 π β
@elena Iβve used DietPi for Jellyfin for years first in a RPi 2B, migrated to an Odroid C2, then Azulle Access3 (last week I migrated my JF server to my Mac mini). Overall I canβt say anything bad about it. I tried Docker, but was overkill for my needs so I went with bare metal installs.
I still have DietPi running on the Pi purely for PiHole duties.

@NitP wonderful to know, thank you Nit!
Quick question: do you think a Pi3 could run PiHole?

On my Mac I use CarbonCopyCloner but not sure about Raspis...

Update: got YunoHost flashed on my microSD card but I just realized that I cannot connect my Raspi via Ethernet (the recommended way) because my router is up on a tall shelf in a closet. So I've ordered a WiFi extender with an Ethernet port.
I hope this will work...
So my Raspi5 with #YunoHost experimentations will have to wait till Thursday morning πβ

@elena It runs fine on my Pi 2B (so older/slower than yours).
It can get limited if you load a lot of blocklists. I use a handful from the excellent Hegazi - https://github.com/hagezi/dns-blocklists.
Havenβt done extensive testing. But some βdigβ commands showed query responses to be under 10ms. Which is healthy enough for me.
I think youβd be fine unless you had demanding requirements.

- I can't reach my RasPi
- It didn't get an IP assigned on the network
- No I mean I cannot reach it *physically*.Strong bash.org feelings from this one:

Great plan, @elena !
RPis are awesome, but if your plan is to run a little #YunoHost homelab long term, you could also consider repurposing an old small-factor desktop like those sold by #AteliersduBocage (π https://boutique.ateliers-du-bocage.fr/83-enfin-libre-).
In my experience, those might be a little more powerful and stable than a #rpi (granted, I stopped at RPi 4 with 2 Go of RAM, so maybe it is not the case anymore π ).

@mbuzzoni thank you Marco. My YunoHost ecosystem (GotoSocial, Pixelfed, PeerTube, NextCloud, LinkStack) runs on a VPS and I've got zero complaints. It's just perfect as it is. I wanted to experiment with my Pi5 and try to set up a Jellyfin server for my music. Otherwise my VPS is more than great

@elena great! BTW, I use @moodeaudio for streaming music on a rpi3, and I find it amazing!
