Good morning Fedi friends!

Good morning Fedi friends!
I set up my alarm at 6:20am - as usual - to have at least an hour to myself before the little one wakes up. Yes, even on a Sunday.
I looked up videos about how to flash LineageOS on my Nexus 7 (2012)... And discovered a charming tutorial about TWRP recovery loader... done by a kid - I'm guessing in his early teens - some 8 years ago. The kids are alright!
If my little one started making videos about jailbreaking devices / installing custom ROMs 10 years from now, I would be so proud ☺️
Anyway, wishing you all a great day!
@elena This brings back memories. I squeezed a lot of reading out of my N7-2012 with LineageOS and TWRP. Finally lost it to a tear in the power on button. Hope you have a lot of fun with yours!

@elrohir Thanks! Still trying to figure out how to get TWRP on it… connectivity is very flaky (Google Store won’t connect, security certificates for sites are broken, etc.). I just want to turn this into a Kindle (so I can take advantage of the colored highlighter function)…

@me I had the same problem… so I started waking up at 6:20am every day. Somehow on school days I still struggle to get her out of bed, but on weekends she wakes up early 🤪

@elena I have that Nexus as well! Pretty amazing tablet, but unfortunately mine died some time ago and never started again... Also, its hardware became exceptionally slow... I think somehow Google pushed its obsolescence pretty hard...

@fmors yes the planned obsolescence is baaad. But Fernando, if you're interested in reviving it, I say: don't give up.
Mine looked completely dead... I managed to resurrect it by opening it, unplugging the battery and plugging it back in.
Then I found the original charging cable and kept it charging for at least a day...
Then I tried the combination of holding power + up volume (or maybe it was the down one?) for a long time and suddenly it powered up!

I just helped a 14yo install a new SSD in their laptop today. Nothing fancy. Beforehand though they were all nervous about just taking the bottom off the laptop. Once we had it off though, they were all questions about what each piece inside was, and independently decided to remove loose screws and pull dust off the GPU fans. Now they're talking about right to repair and what parts they can swap out next.
It's so nice to watch someone go from "This mysterious box may not be touched save by replacing it with a new purchase" to "How can I fix/mod/repair this for my needs?"
