My wife mentioned a news story referencing the Notwithstanding Clause and how Canadian law is frustrating because on its surface it looks like US law (which she's trained in) but works differently in ways she doesn't (yet) understand.
I responded, "Ah, you're having a Dutch moment! You overhear it and your brain is like, 'I should understand this,' but the closer you listen the more it becomes maddening nonsense."
Her: "Well, then I can't wait until next year when I get to learn Dutch."

Also fun fact: if you know English and German, overhearing a conversation in Dutch feels a little like having an aneurysm.

@francina1909 @out cmq Livia ha usato Linux per fare una ricerca alle medie. Le avevo detto che era una versione un po' modificata di Windows e quindi i menu erano diversi. E' riuscita tranquillamente. Per cui ce la puoi fare anche tu, se vuoi. Basta non fasciarsi la testa prima di iniziare 😆

@Paradox crimes committed under duress or necessity (and more in general “mitigating circumstances”) will already levy a reduced sentence/punishment. Ditto for first-time offense. And recidivism is already punished more harshly. So what exactly is your friend on Twitter talking about, given that they apparently don't know what they're talking about?

Friend on Twitter is contemplating the idea of setting criminal punishment severity based on how likely you are to be a repeat offender.
Light punishment for crimes committed under extreme duress, harsh ones when the criminal would otherwise have no problem doing it again.Yeah I'm sure this alone would be problematic, but it's an interesting idea.
