#AskFedi is there an #OCR for #music notation?

@oblomov If I remember well Musescore does. But not in a very efficient way
-
@oblomov I am not a musician so I have no clue if this close to what you need but it seems cool anyway https://www.soundslice.com

@oblomov I also remember Sibelius having that function... But that's of course *very* closed-software. I used a computer at my conservatoire the one time I needed to do this.
But honestly? Depending on how big your score is, manually copying it with Musescore or Lilypond might be faster.

@mario hm last time I checked I don't think it had it, but I'll look into it again, thanks

@nirak that's an interesting one, but it doesn't seem like it would do what I need

@bammerlaan yeah it looks like this might be the case. Three piece is not very long but it's a bit more complex than usual —which would probably also be problematic for the recognition software

@oblomov it might be worth looking at some of the big European-funded OMR projects to see what they've produced https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_music_recognition

@mia oh interesting thanks.

@oblomov Musescore (v4, the "commercial" one) has a cloud-based OCR thingy. In the past there was a lot of closed source software in that space, usually accompanying notation software (e.g. Capella / Capella Scan)
The only semi-usable open source tool I know in that space is https://audiveris.com/

@patrick thanks, I'll look into it.
