@Zambunny we use fibercloth on the veggie beds for 10-14 days even here! An easy starter flower is zinnia, if you want a recommendation. That was my first seedgrown flower about ten years ago :)Otherwise a seedmix with flowers native to, or picked for, your climate. But zinnias should be good!
