The wonderful library at Drum Castle in Aberdeenshire. #FootpathFriday The Whaligoe Steps, on the eastern Scottish coast. These were built to enable local herring women to haul huge baskets of fish up from the boats to the processing facility above. Lucky them.There are over 300 steps - no two sources seem to arrive at the same number - and the steps are maintained by local villagers. They're not *quite* as steep as the Tourist Board would have you believe, but then I was only hauling my fat arse up them and not a massive load of fish.#Scotland
