@SecondUniverse the rate of regret is a question physicians could answer proactively and I wouldn't fault them for it. Going beyond that begins to feel cruel when you have such severe potential outcomes for treatment denied. Maybe we should have more caution about regrets policing men's actions. What's the rate of regret getting hosed on crypto, or cleaned out at the casino online or offline?

@DrALJONES When an uncle, a copper before & during WW2 told me about the terrorists in Palestine & they were now revered politicians! were bombing the UK peace keepers in the late 1940's pretty I was disgusted, as he was there! *(my old man then a territorial 'gunner' spent time 6/8 months after 1945 keeping the peace in Greece! Instead of coming home!)

@Walrus Yes, agree. However, afaik, the previous charge was "burglary". This time it's "criminal damage". There's a pile of different charges.

@GlasWolf @penwing agreed, it's downright slimy. It seems as though the BBC editorial board has been largely captured by the same powers taking over other news media

@flq In the UK and Ireland I now assume a lot of political leadership and influence / direction is bought by $$$ and indeed rubles - corporates, religious fundies, overseas actors and overlaps - funnelled through thinktanks, boards and so on ... so yes, they are conscious.

Columnist: I'm standing up for what I believe in! Protecting women's sport! And I'll keep standing up for it, no matter how much those snowflakes try to silence me and my right to free speech!Citizen: That's fantastic! You know, female athletes have to put up with so much vicious misogyny and abuse, especially on social media. Some men really can be snowflakes when it comes to women's sport.Columnist: No! I'm raising the big issue in women's sport, and I'm being /attacked/ for it!Citizen: Really?! People are attacking you for saying female athletes deserve equal pay for equal work?Columnist: Not that one! I'm talking about something far more serious, affecting the health and wellbeing of female athletes. And even the very integrity of women's sport itself!Citizen: Do you mean how sports science focuses almost exclusively on male athletes, leading to women suffering anterior cruciate ligament injuries at six times the rate of men (citation: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/26/magazine/acl-tear-women-girl-sports.html )?Citizen: Or do you mean how elite women's sport is routinely relegated to worse venues and TV coverage, with less sponsorship and promotion?Columnist: No! I'm talking about protecting women's sport from the scourge of men transitioning for the sole purpose of winning at women's sport!Citizen: Why would a professional male athlete who's not trans want to go through all the challenges and discrimination of transitioning for less pay, less TV coverage, fewer sponsorships, smaller crowds, less promotion, higher injury risk, worse venue, online abuse, and rampant misogyny, just to win at women's sport?Columnist: Because *winning*!Citizen: Can you give an example of where this has actually happened?Columnist: ...Citizen: And what do you propose to do about it?Columnist: Totally dismantle democracy, install a totalitarian dictatorship, arrest or kill anyone who disagrees with said despot, and deport ethnic minorities en masse. Also we'll use it to justify rolling back all healthcare and civil rights to trans people, establishing that human rights exist at the arbitrary will of our overload, which the despot will use arbitrarily against all women and any other individuals or groups he disagrees with.Citizen: That seems a bit... extreme.Columnist: It's all to protect women's sport.Citizen: And what will you do about the other issues I raised?Columnist: Well, if any of them, such as research into sports medicine for women or facilities for women's sport, require public funding, then we'll cut the funding and give the money back to rich supporters of our despot as a tax cut.Citizen: I see. Say, just out of curiosity, who do you think will win the grand final in the AFLW this year?Columnist: I honestly don't care. I'm not into women's sport, sorry.#AFLW #womenssport #transrights #auspol #ukpol #uspol #politics #feminism #terf #terfs #trans

Brit lawmaker targeted by AI deepfake fails to get answers from US Big TechAppearing before Parliament, Meta, Google and X struggle to explain how fake political video circulated for so longA member of the UK Parliament's lower house who was the victim of a deepfake AI campaign this week had a rare chance to confront the Big Tech executives who helped spread it. Their answers disappointed.Representatives from Meta, Google, and X stumbled, offered platitudes, and explained their respective policies, but did little to compensate for spreading the potentially ruinous AI fake, or commit to ensuring it could not happen again after Conservative MP George Freeman confronted them.,,,Addressing these responses, Freeman said: "It feels to me as though the platforms are taking the approach that 'they've got a policy' and not policing actively. It falls to us as Parliamentarians to police it. My instinct is to pass a very simple law that somebody's identity belongs to them and cannot be stolen, used, misappropriated, whatever the purpose… You should go to bed a night not fearing that in the morning, you find a deeply damaging, disruptive and dangerous misrepresentation of you."https://www.theregister.com/2026/03/26/brit_law_maker_fails_to/#uk #ukpol #google #meta #twitter #ReformUK #BigTech #usa

@afewbugs I hope someone sues us for the costs they have already incurred before the government cancelled visas. And maybe one of the big rich universities like Oxford should sue the government for the costs they have wasted and had to cancel on student places.Maybe if more institutions fought back and made the government pay for all their shitty last minute costly decisions they'd stop doing it to flirt with Reform voters.

One fundamental issue with that suggested schema is that it completely breaks down if one normalizes peer-to-peer interactions, in which case there is no service. They're so hierarchical authoritarian-brained that they cannot even conceive of this. @openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org
