You control software, but the provider controls hardware.Full sovereignty requires physical control: home hosting or owned infrastructure. That's the trade-off between convenience and trust minimization.

    Hello people of the Fediverse. I have a minor problem I'd like to pick your brains for any solution, regarding #xmpp / #jabber calls over AT&T wireless mobile, in the US. Simply, xmpp calls over #att data fail, audio or video doesn't matter, texts get through just fine. Calls over WiFi are fine. I have tried the aTalk and the c0nnect pro apps, same result. Using chatterboxtown.us as a server, in case that matters. All devices are Android. Looking for clues, knowledge or experience. TIA

    Progress update no.3 (perseverance edition) 💪​Several people suggested that I install #YunoHost on my Raspi5 ON TOP of Debian (thank you @jan and @fmors) so I will be trying that tomorrow morning... when my parents are looking after my little one (who's on a 2 week school holiday).This morning I gave up a little too easily because she was playing nearby and my attention was a little scattered.But excited to try out this method tomorrow. Thank you Jan & Fernando 🙏​The Fediverse has THE BEST tech support 😄​

    There is no single central #Signal server. Signal uses #AWS cloud, plus Google Cloud, Microsoft Cloud and Cloudflare, all under US legislation. If any of these clouds goes down or becomes otherwise problematic, chatting degrades or fails.With #deltachat you can choose #chatmail relays ( https://chatmail.at/relays ) which distributes the risk across a wider network.
