Me, walking into lab where teacher and 6th years (~17/18yrs) are talking. They stop.
Teacher: "OK, Geoff, do YOU believe in ghosts?"
Me: "Erm...I believe people *experience* them..."
Teacher: "But what about our energy, what makes us 'us'? Where does that go?"
Me: "What units are you measuring this energy in? How are you measuring it?"
Student, deadpan: "Ghost energy is obviously measured in Ghouls."
No notes, perfect, told student they should write next Ghostbusters film.

@Fasgadh I'm in the sweet spot, technician rather than a teacher, and one who enjoys student interaction.

@Printdevil @Fasgadh I volunteered as a parapsychology subject at uni in the 1990s, it was a thing in Edinburgh! All for it, if the cost to benefit ratio works. But that does seem to have slipped over the years...

@13pt8plus I recently spent a weekend with friends I first met through stand-up comedy in the early 2000s.
That gag, and specifically the dry delivery, would have got a handshake from all of them.

The Koestler Chair in Edinburgh? I was offered a Phd place on that program in the 90s!
What a small world.

@Printdevil @Fasgadh That's the one! Don't know exactly what the study was, but I was being monitored while seeing very brief snapshots of facial expressions. Hey, paid for a night out!

I vaguely think I remember the people doing that...
I did a whole proposal for an emotional resonance thing to create updated stimulus for Psi identification, using icons which had cross cultural impact yada yada and basically got told I was being too picky and sciencey
So I went elsewhere. But I kept the acceptance letter because it amused me.
