In my opinion, the IOC is a dirty organisation corrupted by Putin, Xi and Trump, among others. Just like FIFA. Corruption wherever you look.
Allow Russian flags in stadiums, but ban pictures of victims of the Russian war of aggression... the new head of the IOC is just as morally depraved as the former one.@Robbe_Duesseldorf @EugeneMcParland It's not just your opinion: the IOC is corrupt, and has been for years. It casts a pall over all the marvelous feats of human athleticism and skill that is every single Olympic games.

He was banned from racing in that helmet.
He was disqualified before he could compete.When an athlete stands for truth, honour, and remembrance, that is already a victory.

@EugeneMcParland He was disqualified before breaking the IOC rules. Why not disqualify all athletes for reasons of precaution? Anyone could break the rules.

It's a silly practice from an ancient time when people thought war was a bad thing and wished to have some sort of gathering of shared fun to avoid it. No place for bullshit like that in the modern world.

And since "No war, because sports" hasn't worked (ostensibly one of the original purposes of the Olympics was to promote peace and unity among Greek city states)
- maybe it's time to give "No sports, because war" a chance.
I agree with the sentiment, but I suspect that the most likely outcome from such a policy would be the permanent cancellation of all international sorting events.

How can the Olympics say he can't honour Ukraine heroes of the war because "it's political" when they themselves have banned Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine! Surely that is political too!

Seemingly, but it's phenomenally unlikely that ever modern State would put sporting interests ahead of security interests, so the outcome would be no more Olympics and non-warring nations being penalised for the acts of the aggressor nations.
Penalising warlike nations by barring them from competition (ie what we have) seems to be the better option.

By example, the international sporting ban imposed on South Africa contributed to the end of apartheid, but would it have had the same impact if every other nation had been prevented from playing alongside SA?

Pretty sure that war is a bad thing for most of the people involved.
Bankers, politicians and resource hoarders might disagree.

Francesca Albanese at bUm
A lecture by UN Special Rapporteur #FrancescaAlbanese as part of the February 19th event: Conditions of Life Calculated to Destroy, #Legal and #Forensic Perspectives on the Ongoing #Gaza #Genocide - at bUm, Berlin.
The lecture was supposed to take place in a big lecture hall at Freie universitat, along with Eyal Weizman, director of #ForensicArchitecture. But the university cancelled the event after massive critique, amongst others from the Israeli ambassador, and from the #mayor of Berlin, #KaiWegner, who called it antisemitic. The relocated event at bUm took place under police presence. A few days earlier, Albanese’s lecture at a University in #Munich had also been cancelled, as we mentioned in Episode One.

Il cyberpandino è l'essenza di quello che noi (non so tu, ma io sicuramente), gente stagionata, ricerca con affanno e insistenza: la non-omologazione, la bellezza dell'essere diverso, la curiosità di sapere come funziona quello che abbiamo tra le mani, il riciclo di vecchie tecnologie per trasformarle in nuove esperienze e non ultima, la condivisione.
E mi fermo qui :)
