@benroyce There is also a european wide campaign going to migrate away from US big tech. That one is going to hurt even more.
So far I've gotten rid of the streaming services, the social media, Microsoft and amazon. I'm currently working on leaving Google but that one is a bit more tricky. -

if people vote, and then the vote is denied, and the people rise up: absolutely everyone is crystal clear as to what is happening and why. so people join in, because they know the message being delivered

so they don't vote, they can't be bothered. they invent bullshit "high minded" rationalizations for their complacency
given that a general strike is even more unlikely
revolution happens when people are hungry. there is hunger in the usa, but enough have access to enough food it makes uprising unlikely. if the economy tanks, you may see it

Some can’t see stealing other people’s civil rights is a double edge sword.

News flash, protest no longer works in this country, people need to get angrier. Gestapo has no fear. They don't. They'll catch you anywhere and they know you won't fight back.
@macacator @benroyce @lynfox The real danger point here is when the population starts wholesale shooting back. This is what Humpty wants, and it’s something to be avoided, unless we want the situation to deteriorate and turn into an actual violent uprising.

@capnthommo I was listening to an interview from 1977 this morning between Studs Terkel and Michael Harrington and Ralph Helstein. Harrington was of course critical of the Democrats, but as he pointed out, all of the people who want positive change, for whatever reason, were in the Democratic Party. Yeah, Carter was lousy, but Reagan was worse by a factor of a hundred.
Do we have corrupt leadership? Yes, but that's not why we joined.

@Gina I have friends who have done this and I lived on a small boat for 10 years. The practicalities and relative discomforts are all manageable in good weather. The thing that people can struggle with is friendships/community/connections… you and the people you meet are constantly moving around so there’s a lot of goodbyes and some find that difficult.
You’re also right to not want to blow all your life savings to do it!
