We have almost 60 universities in Germany with Mastodon accounts and the logo on their websites, see the great lists of @scammo

Check the details of that page and you will be directed to nearly 150 research institutes in Germany active an Mastodon, cities and communities etc.. And their numbers of followers is constantly increasing.
Isn't that a great development for the fediverse?
Please, @EUCommission, come on and join this movement. This would help enormously in demonstrating European souvereignity.

@muminitaly @_elena @EUCommission one thing we can do is to keep hammering the point with them. As some have already pointed out, we're not asking them to abandon their profiles on those platforms. For now, at least, just add a mastodon link to the list of "follow us" options. Maybe even as the number 1 link.

I could understand if they kept the account just to keep the handle from being misused.
But simply not using it anymore.

This is the reason I still have an account, assuming they haven’t removed it already after years not logging in.

I deleted my 3 Twitter (X sigh) accounts last year (they'd been inactive since fElon took over) and within 1-2 weeks all my usernames were grabbed... thankfully one violated the terms and has been permanently banned... I don't dare look at my personal one that I had for 14 years
