  • @smallcircles No, I love ghosts, they have the coolest stories, and I don't have to deal with those pesky living people with their racism and their hate.
I also love villages, they're livable, they're walkable and the only real problem is being stuck out in the middle of nowhere, and that downside doesn't really apply online.
And bustling: Every place is full of people I want to hear from.

I don't have the time to hear from all of them, but that's just the FOMO speaking.

  • @maikel that is a great list of points. I won't boost, or you get more of what you don't want, but you might consider filing a fediverse idea..

Some of these can be mitigated by nurturing cultural habits.

    > 6. The worst one: people use other names instead to call them so filters don't work.

This one in particular. Besides references to toxic people you see it too with folks saying Gaggle, GMAFIA, Farcebook, etc.

Often these names are used in someone's "activism package", but using them is imho more performative to an existing in-group than that they constructively appeal to others and persuade them to join the good cause.

I posted something related to this today. See CALM culture in..

The acronym also litterally means that our social media culture becomes calmer, and there's better separation to where there's activism, and where the natural talk of the town.

Asking Fedi. Could you help me find pieces of art, especially video pieces about autism from the perspective of the autistic person? Ideally, made by autistic artists or filmmakers. Preferably short films but any other kind of art piece would be welcome too. I edit to add: I'm asking because one of my final project students, who is autistic, is planning to do a video about his autism and how he experiences it. I wanted to send him some previous works, for inspiration or as examples. Anything helps! Boosts OK. #askFedi #actuallyAutistic

xmpp is not "one standard" it's an extensible mess and no two people use the same client/server combination, leading to some kind of factorial explosion of mutually incompatible software. there are over five hundred XEPs and any given project has a unique view of which ones are "necessary" and which are "supported" and which are "deprecated" and which ones you should go to jail for even reading.xmpp has xeps for systems administration, internet of things shit, service discovery, and a million other things that should never have been shoved into a chat protocol, while the xeps that are intended to fix the actual issues that affect users are "deferred" because it's a hell of a lot easier to invent an entire new use case for xmpp than it is to fix any problems with existing xeps.this, combined with the excessively verbose markup, means that starting from scratch has two incredibly attractive benefits: one, you don't have to learn this tremendous bureaucratic protocol maze, and two, just about any wire format you can think of is going to perform better than xmpp over slow or intermittent network connections, which are the majority of internet connections.
