@fesshole When I was growing up, "cake mix" is what you added things to (water, maybe eggs, etc.) in order to make "cake batter" which was then poured into the "cake pan" to make "cake".

Two of the couples got set up with new cafés/chippies as their wedding presents - apparently it is (or was) the done thing and all the extended relatives chip in to fund it. One of them told me that basically every single Edinburgh chippie belonged to one extended Italian family or another.
