@_elena Delta Chat is a great way to decentralize the IM. I've been using it years ago, with a couple of friends, using my primary e-mail address. It was great. I'm considering to host a chatmail server.

@jana @_elena exactly. and this is sad. Sure, we can use it with a normal mail server (and it's a huge plus, at least for me) but this will mean a constant IMAP connection from the phone to the server. Which is...okish, but not great.
The alternative could be:
- a linuxulator FreeBSD jail - but this won't support systemd, so some tweaking needed
- a LX zone on illumos based OS - I think this will work. I think I'm going to test this path. -

Just yesterday, I got my 90yo mother onboard @delta chat, joining the rest of my family (we all switched over from Signal a few months back)
She lives alone, independently, and has used email for 2x/day wellness checks for a decade.I quipped “technically, it’s still email” as she opened up the app. You could see the gears turning in her head.
“So… there’s no spam?”
“Cryptographically impossible” I assured her.

So, let's talk about Maria Carey's “All I want for Christmas is You”.
My best review: this song is “unoffensive”. I can't say I like it, but I do not turn it off when I hear it.
It's ultimately a love song! Despite that it's made millions for Maria & her producer, it's ultimately anti-commercialism: All I want for Christmas is you to be here w/me: not presents.This one's not horrible. I'll continue listing more holiday songs that I progressively like more as the night continues.

Redneck Spaceship From Trash
Facebook Marketplace provides you with a free grain silo, so what do you do with it? If you are [saveifforparts], you mix it with other materials and produce a retro-style rocket ship prop. Art project? Sure, we’ll call it that.
We have to admit, we also see rockets in everyday objects, and the silo does look the part. He also had some junk that looked like a nose cone, some tanks, and other assorted trash.
The electronics junk looks familiar, and after a thorough hose-down, he reused some of the front panels to drive a few sound effects. At least until some smoke came out of one of them. Adding a door proved the most challenging part.
The whole thing reminded us of a Captain Proton holodeck adventure. Honestly, if he had kept it horizontal, it would have made a fair Republic serial spaceship for Flash or Buck.
Useful? No. Cool. You bet. We doubt you’d replicate this, but we do hope it might inspire you to create your own whimsical project. Let us know when you do.
We hope he has a ray gun in there. He still has some blank bulkhead space. He may need a few more control panels.

What is the most woke* and feel good Christmas movie you know?
*Keep in mind an 80s-90s movie is quite unlikely to fulfill my woke criteria.
