@_elena Delta Chat is a great way to decentralize the IM. I've been using it years ago, with a couple of friends, using my primary e-mail address. It was great. I'm considering to host a chatmail server.

@jana @_elena exactly. and this is sad. Sure, we can use it with a normal mail server (and it's a huge plus, at least for me) but this will mean a constant IMAP connection from the phone to the server. Which is...okish, but not great.
The alternative could be:
- a linuxulator FreeBSD jail - but this won't support systemd, so some tweaking needed
- a LX zone on illumos based OS - I think this will work. I think I'm going to test this path. -

Just yesterday, I got my 90yo mother onboard DeltaChat, joining the rest of my family (we all switched over from Signal a few months back)
She lives alone, independently, and has used email for 2+/day wellness checks for decades.I quipped “technically, it’s still email” as she opened up the app. You could see the gears turning in her head.
“So… there’s no spam?”
“Cryptographically impossible” I assured her.

Grazie al fediverso sono più libero
Ieri ho fatto un incontrobtrani genitori sui #pattiDigitali, un accordo informale per limitare l'uso dei dispositivi elettronici ai bambini e adolescenti. Farò un post a parte perché è interessante.
Però si parlava anche del fatto che i #socialmedia aspirano a catturare la nostra attenzione, a propinarci pubblicità, a seguire pagine/influencer che non ci interessano.
Ebbene, posso dire che, grazie al fediverso, tutto ciò non mi riguarda più, sono padrone del mio percorso.Devo fare ancora tanta strada per liberarmi di #gafam, ma un passo importante l'ho gia fatto.
