@DrJLecter I'm not suggesting installing Windows or Linux for everyone! I'm saying Windows has a leg up in your use case because your computer already had Windows (or Mac OS) installed. Having it already done for you by your PC maker is infinitely easier than having to do it yourself.
There are vendors that preinstall Linux, so you (and my mom and mail carrier) don't have to.
@swelljoe which "normal" person out there has ever installed Windows though? You are talking about yourself, but want everyone else to do the same as if it's a common thing and everyone else just refuses to be smart. Have your parents ever installed windows? Your neighbours? Your mail person? Pizza deliverer? Waiter? When you ask why people not just use Linux, you're not talking about people like yourself, you're talking about THEM. And that's just not gonna happen until it's made a LOT easier.
@Trames personalmente ho una visione critica del fediverso e questo non piace, attiro estremismi. Ho una visione critica di tutto, non mi piacciono le fazioni e cerco sempre di affrontare ogni argomento da più punti di vista possibili.
@DrJLecter so, installing Linux was difficult, but have you ever had to perform a fresh install Windows or Mac OS? Having installed Windows and Linux hundreds of times, I'd argue it's quite a lot easier to install a good Linux distribution (Ubuntu is not my favorite, but it's Good Enough) than Windows on a new PC, but you never see that because 90% of new PCs sold have Windows preinstalled.
There are systems builders that preinstall Linux, for what it's worth.
I asked Windows 10 users what they were planning to do as Windows 10 stops getting free updates. The answers may surprise you. Only 9% plan to move to Windows 11. 1% plan to pay for updates. 22% want to keep using Windows 10, even without security updates. 61% plan to switch to Linux. 6% plan something else.Obviously this is a survey done here in the Fediverse, but this is quite interesting and could mean more users coming to Linux, which IMHO is a good thing.I just made the switch and I am quite happy with it. At the same time I always look for improvements and issues to resolve. It is kind of in my blood.#Windows #Microsoft #Linux #AI
Hey #Proxmox community! I would like to hear your thoughts on how you usually update your Proxmox nodes and clusters. How do you handle minor Proxmox and #Debian package upgrades with #APT?What would you think about a new API endpoint that lets you run unattended upgrades with a simple call like:/nodes/{node_name}/apt/upgradeAt the moment you need to use the node’s HTML5 console to perform upgrades. Other methods exist such as running unattended Debian upgrade scripts, using patch management tools like #Spacewalk or #QualvoSec, or automating the process with #Ansible over SSH. My idea is to have an API based solution that relies on Proxmox authentication and authorization. This would also allow third party tools such as #ProxLB to provide automated patch management and even handle guest rebalancing in a way that is similar to DRS without requiring direct SSH access.I have already been running this approach on several internal clusters since the release of PVE 8 without issues. Now I am interested to hear if you would use unattended upgrades in general or if you are already running them today.#Linux #OpenSource #PatchManagement #Security #DevOps #Automation #Ansible #PVE #PVE8 #PVE9
Consigli?#Tecnologia #Informatica
