Hey fedi,
So, with the news about #vim, I'm considering branching out and trying different editors/toolchains. Thing is, I've got a #vimwiki that keeps my brain running, a second one that manages the massive project that is #thisOldClownHouse and a third that is my website.
I'm hopeful that a non-slop fork of vim is in the future, but I can't maintain one, so I'm wanting to learn about my options.
I could use recommendations of things to explore. Optimally tools where the maintainers have stated a policy of not accepting slop, but I'm willing to risk things where we don't have *known* slop being introduced by maintainers.
I don't need an all-in-one solution necessarily, but I do need both a text editor and a wiki solution. There needs to be some tooling from which I can render a basic static site from the wiki format. I can shell script just enough to ease the practice of pushing files through a series of tools, but I typically need some handholding, so I'd prefer something that's already pretty well established.
I'm not currently looking to leave the terminal, no shade to gui's, just not what I'm looking for right now.
edit: Oh, and I'm on #openBSD, so preferably something that's already in ports, but I'd still like to know about small projects too.

⚙️Abbiamo aggiornato poliverso.org alla rel.2026.01. Nelle prossime ore il sistema risulterà molto rallentato per ristabilire i flussi della mezza giornata in cui è stato off-line🧑🔧
L’aggiornamento alla Release 2026.01 ha richiesto una mezza giornata. Ci dispiace per il disguido e soprattutto ci dispiace non avervi avvisati per tempo, ma l'intervento di aggiornamento ha seguito alcuni interventi dovuti al fatto che da già da ieri sera il sistema era stato soggetto a blocchi e rallentamenti che non ci consentivano neanche di inviare la consueta email di avviso!
Nelle prossime ore il sistema risulterà comunque estremamente rallentato perché il server deve recuperare da tutti gli altri server federati tutti i post che non ha potuto gestire in questa mezza giornata di stop, quindi vi consigliamo di non utilizzarlo fino a domani.Speriamo che la nuova release, con i miglioramenti promessi a livello di database, si dimostri più leggera ed efficiente della release precedente.
Nei prossimi giorni effettueremo dei test sulle novità principali che caratterizzano questa release e provvederemo a inviarvi una comunicazione con una breve guida per utilizzarle.

@evan working on a piece on this but broadly in agreement - i think the AI exceptionalism is fever pitch here rn as if everything up to here was somehow fine and dandy and now we've passed an invisible threshold into fascism. like cmon...

@evan common GenAI images aren't great, since they're generated by image uneducated users.
But I've seen really interesting work by photographers already (it's not a surprise, since their own art got the same criticisms a century ago "it's not your work, it's the machine's", "it's not art, it's engineering"). But that also implies that a lot of curation and post-production takes place in the process, just like photography.
And of course, using the medium to say something through it.

@DrFerrous I've been writing and publishing code on the Web since about the time the Web began. I'm sure that a lot of my original work is used for training data.

There are so many applications for which LLMs are used/useful. I think you make good points about learning based on experience for code production and other uses. OTOH, if I had worked intensively to produce copyrighted content — I am thinking about books, whether fiction, textbooks, etc. — that was then scooped up and regurgitated after a query (e.g., medical advice), I might think otherwise (not to mention the risk that LLMs probably shouldn't be used unsupervised for med advice rn).
