It's not the sign-up process that's preventing a mass-migration to #Mastodon. Reduce barriers to entry, sure. But it was not so long that we had to load a CD, type in credentials, and listen to the Internet demons summon our connection.
No, it's that Mastodon isn't suitable for Internet fame. The big accounts will ever come to a place that doesn't support an algorithmic caste system. How'd they know who's more important? If the big accounts won't come neither will anyone else

The big accounts will tell you it's the people on #Mastodon they don't like. But remember, they kept drinking from Twitter's feed long after the milk turned.
Professional posters need a game to beat; a system to rig. They need a marketplace of ideals to sell soundbites and merch.
#Mastodon is closer to a community than a market. You can't sell anything without a market.

@fromjason I'm not sure. Is #Bluesky more suitable for Internet fame? The discussions over here are sometimes a little bit boring. People on #Mastodon are very homogenous what their political convictions are concerned.

Time will tell. But I'll say this- the top 100 accounts are Twitter's most marketable personalities of the last decade. Bluesky has zero homegrown celebs, despite some early adopters having a year's head start. That top 100 list was, imo, curated by Bsky Inc.

Side note: I'm not anti-creator or anti-selling things. #Mastodon has some really great creators who do quality work.
Communities can sustain markets. I'm anti-markets cosplaying community.

@fromjason @downey “It’s no good for getting internet famous” isn’t a reason I’ve seen cited for preferring Bluesky to Mastodon. I *have* seen people say that they found Mastodon difficult to use for technical reasons beyond just choosing a server, and that they get way more reply guys and racists in their replies and DMs here than on other platforms.

A keyboard/mouse shelf would probably also do the job, but that'd be hard to install on this weird-ass old desk, which as a big fat edge all around. The simple keyboard shelf I've always used simply won't fit it.
I still might end up chopping off an inch or so, if the taller casters don't solve it.

I was very seriously considering chopping an inch or two off the legs of my desk, because it's too tall for any of my chairs and my arms are at a weird angle that's bad for my arthritis and encourages RSI and CTS. Like, so close, I had dug my marking gauge and flush cut saw out and was starting to move stuff.
But, then I thought I should check to see if I can get taller casters for the chair, first...turns out I can get 1.5" extra height from 3" roller blade casters for under twenty bucks.

@cesco_78 Una vita senza mac OS, dato che dopo qualche release non si installa più su computer neppure vecchiotti, certo quello stesso hardware fa girare linux alla grande per una vita. Ho un mac mini del 2011 con debian.
