Apple still screwing people on RAM, huh? Oh, you want a reasonable amount of RAM to accommodate the outrageous growth of software in recent years? No problem, that'll be three thousand dollars, please.
And, none of them are upgradable, right? I can't just buy a Mini with 16GB and shove a reasonably sized module in there?

Holy shit, the SSD is also soldered in and not upgradable? Against the wall with them. That's criminal. It never even crossed my mind they'd fuck their customers to that degree.

Apple out here making it easy to buy nothing. I'd like to make the desktop apps I'm working on available for Mac, but this is so hateful.

@swelljoe I think the new Mini, if you are crafty enough, you can upgrade the SSD but RAM isn't upgradable in almost any new Laptop as far as I am concerned.

@lontrachen I'm not interested in a laptop, I certainly won't use the Mac as a daily driver. Just need something to build and test my apps on. I guess I don't really need a ton of memory (or disk) for that. It's just that Apple building their low-cost devices for almost immediate obsolescence is just so infuriating. It's not repairable, not upgradable, and too small even today. You have to spend over $1000 to get 24GB which is...sufficient for light use, I guess? Software has gotten so huge.

@lontrachen and, I guess that's software developers fault, more than Apple. But, Apple doesn't have to make it so difficult and/or expensive to deal with the reality of modern software. RAM is expensive, but not that expensive.

@swelljoe totally understand but in their defense the Mac Mini is a mini PC, I think they all come with soldered RAMs. This is my point.
Question is if it is cheaper to build a PC, or get a Raspberry Pi but you can't expand the RAM as well.
It is just the reality.

@lontrachen $500 buys a mini PC with 32GB of RAM. Several models, in fact. The M4 chip blows the x86_64 CPU away in those cheap mini PCs, but RAM is at least as important to how responsive a system will be (moreso, almost certainly).

@lontrachen we Linux users pay nothing to not have to deal with Windows or MacOS. (But, here I am spending several days getting a Windows build and thinking about what Mac to buy to build for Mac, because I can't make any money selling software to Linux users.)
