#solarpunk@markmetz i remember this tech from ~20 years ago at some very hippy forum, someone was making insulation sheets with mycelium. Great if theyve found niche that can work with it.

#solarpunk@markmetz The #goodNews: It's no more 'only' #solarpunk, it's already industry (the video seems to be quite old). Here in France, we have companies producing #packages from #mycelium, hemp, algues, or plant waste.
Also in other EU countries like Belgium: https://www.permafungi.be/en - which is cofounded by the EU!The French anti-plastic laws have accelerated these developments.

@markmetz there was a documentary about this on BBC2 like 15 years ago and it looked like such a great development. I never heard anything of it again. I hope it's finally taking off.
@SilverArrows Those packages are already in our shops. There are several European companies producing them. (You can find some in the comments here).

@c_salem Such projects are already funded by the EU, e.g. the Belgian company Permafungi.
And the packages are in the shops. In France e.g. https://www.embelium.fr/ - and outside the EU you have Mushroom Packaging UK. -

@admin There's a lot of info in the internet! You can also ask the producers for which case the packages are used.
#Mycelium is one of the foundations of life. It permeates the entire soil of earth. Most food plants cannot survive at all without symbiosis with mycorrhiza (= mycelium firmly connected to their roots). Every good compost has plenty of mycelium.

It's demotivating to think that:
- LLMs aren't good at producing original / novel work
- You still need experts to advance that stuff
- It will always be slower to move without using LLMs
- Once an innovation is done though, an innovation can always be scooped up by the LLM users
- "Bro why are you doing all this manually, I just vibe coded that in a weekend"Will it always be this way? It's depressing in the meanwhile, at least.
