Hi #fediverse. We need to talk about something.
While talking to a colleague about how I recently learned most people have never sat on a cow it came up that she has never sat on a horse. Like, not even once during childhood.
Another colleague admitted they also have never sat on a horse.
My hypothesis is that most people have at one point in their life sat on a horse.

@Pepijn I rode a horse once as part of a scout camp thing, and once or twice when I was very young.
I do routinely use my dog as a pillow, not sure if that counts. (He's not quite big enough to ride, even though he is bigger than me.)

@Pepijn I sat on horses, a cow and a pig. (Don't try that last one, kids, best outcome is you get dirty. If you are less lucky than I was, you can get seriously hurt.)

Rode horses before in my life, but never heard of riding a cow (other than rodeo) -
note: the question is not "have your rich parents paid 50.000 of your local currency on gloriously expensive horse lessons and then you went on a skiing holiday". The question is: "have you sat on a horse".
Mini-horse = horse
Pony = horse
Cow = not horse, wrong thread.
And yes, as many people point out: that school-trip to an inner-city petting school where all six yr olds sat on Alfiiiii!! the sturdy mini-horse = yes, I've sat on a horse.

I'm curious how this would fall along age lines. I saw a comment that said he is in the US - only rich folks have access to horses. I am 70 - grew up rather poor in the US and rode horses a couple times a year.
I find it to be rather unaffordable now. -

@Pepijn I'm a city girl. Never sat on a horse. The horse and I are mostly likely better off for it.

@Pepijn One of my dad's friends was a jouster, which at least for that kind involved putting your lance through three rings suspended by strings in the shortest amount of time. I sat on one of the ponies he brought with him named Rosebud

@Pepijn I have sat, walked, trotted and galloped on a few horses but no formal lessons. I got thrown and stepped on too. Dad and his pal were ex-bikers with horses and mom came from farmers.

@Pepijn you touched pretty weird aspect of reality. I was raised on farm. Got basically daily contact with working horses. Never sat on them, though. Never ride them. Later in my life when my kids discovered riding passion, I needed to accompany. So its yes and no simoultanously :)
