Hi #fediverse. We need to talk about something.
While talking to a colleague about how I recently learned most people have never sat on a cow it came up that she has never sat on a horse. Like, not even once during childhood.
Another colleague admitted they also have never sat on a horse.
My hypothesis is that most people have at one point in their life sat on a horse.

@Pepijn I have no memory of having sat on a horse, but there is a photo. When I was very young, my grandfather moved to the far suburbs and bought a house with a barn and a couple of horses. Maybe one or more of my aunts was a Horse Girl; I don't know. So there's a photo of me as a toddler sitting on one of those horses, being held by my teenage aunt. But I don't think I've been on a horse since then.

@Pepijn I am also happy to admit I am in a cow-sitting category too.
I did grow up on a dairy farm, however. So perhaps I'm advantaged in a bovine sense.

@Pepijn I am much more sure that I have never sat on a horse. If I had, it would have been some photo-worthy occasion and I would have evidence. I had tons of childhood opportunities to sit on a cow and it could have happened without being preserved for posterity.

Like, I know horses are still around, and I could totally believe something like a third of people having ever sat on a horse. It's just surprising that it's such a large majority.

@Pepijn this data is skewed. Theres no way that many people have sat on a horse outside of the Midwest and or south.

Same! I was trying to milk our goat after a phantom pregnancy and was straddling her, holding on to one horn as I bent over trying to milk her (she weighed 100lb!).I was totally concentrated and then heard some noise and turned my head around to see my wife and daughter both creased up laughing because it apparently looked a bit, err, wrong.
