ChaosBSD: a FreeBSD fork to serve as a driver testing groundChaosBSD is a fork of FreeBSD. It exists because upstream cannot, and should not, accept broken drivers, half-working hardware, vendor trash, or speculative hacks. We can.↫ ChaosBSD GitHub pageThis is an excellent approach to testing drivers that simply aren't even remotely ready to be included in FreeBSD-prohttps://www.osnews.com/story/144210/chaosbsd-a-freebsd-fork-to-serve-as-a-driver-testing-ground/#FreeBSD

Alright, one more reason to love #FreeBSD: I just upgraded one of my nuidns servers without issue. For those who don't know, nuidns is my rocinante+bastille based jail system for anycasted authoritative and recursive DNS. It has two commands, create and destroy. All I had to do was bootstrap 15.0-RELEASE with @BastilleBSD - and update the rocinante scripts to use the newer release, then run a destroy, followed by a create. Done, no errors, no warnings. My hard work on this system over the years is certainly part of why it works so well. But FreeBSD's dedication to the principle of least surprise is what makes it possible. If I had done this with Linux+Docker, I would likely have to retool it with every major distro release and often for the minor ones.I love FreeBSD because it just works, and it does so consistently.

What Brings People to FreeBSD?Recent comments on our community post showed just how diverse the paths into FreeBSD can be. Some users have been running FreeBSD since the 1990s for its stability and predictable behavior. Others found it through TrueNAS, books, mentors, user groups, or simply curiosity. Thank you to everyone who shared their experience. These stories help newcomers see the many ways FreeBSD supports real-world work.#FreeBSD #OpenSource #Community #FreeBSDFoundation
