I joined a couple days back, because I wanted to follow some of the FOSS projects and their authors. While that is a success, I'm still drowning in politics and internal shenanigans.For somebody who was very much insulated from social networks, for at least a couple of years now, it's dreading.
For example, people screaming # mansplaining under seemingly any comment breaks my brain. If somebody wants to explain this to me: I'm open =)

I dropped in over three years ago, when Ebola took over Twitter. It was a very good decision!

Filters are your friend. There's lots of ways to block out the stuff you're not keen on. Shout if you want some pointers - otherwise welcome. 😊

@PaulaToThePeople Joined the Fediverse because Twitter/X broke its API so that third-party clients couldn't function properly. These clients made my experience accessible to the visually impaired. Breaking that meant I needed a new home.

@PaulaToThePeople I deleted instagram, because I was sick of Meta, advertisements, and being hypnotised by reels for hours. I wanted control over my feed and genuine interaction. Like tumblr in 2012, which was my only good social media experience prior to fedi.

Thank you for advice, I will definitely try filters out. And if it doesn't work for me, I guess just no using a "Trending" page is also always an option. -

Being honest, if there were images I couldn't interact with, I would just skip on by and not feel particularly left out, I wouldn't care. I didn't know what I was missing, but now, being able to interact with images, understand them, makes me share them, makes me feel more a part. I particularly love the nature images. The effort and detail people put into describing them means a lot to me.

There are things mine can't do, like make polls and some other stuff. I wish I could see who other people are following and who their friends are like I could on Twitter. I wish I could see their favourites, but, all in all, it's pretty good.

Previsioni per il 2026
- C’è una crescente concentrazione tra i grandi servizi e una crescente tensione
- C'è meno integrazione di nuovi moderatori , anche se le minacce aumentano
- Le campagne di disinformazione e lo spam generato dall'intelligenza artificiale sono ora rischi importanti
- La complessità legale e normativa è in aumento, ma il supporto resta scarso
Il rapporto di quest'anno include anche una previsione lungimirante, individuando cinque tendenze che caratterizzeranno l'anno a venire:- La logica condivisa e i segnali di fiducia sostituiranno le liste di blocco frammentate
Perché questo è importante
- I media sintetici e l'impersonificazione metteranno alla prova la moderazione umana
- I rischi di cattura delle infrastrutture aumentano man mano che gli strumenti vengono centralizzati
- La regolamentazione globale della sicurezza sta diventando obbligatoria e non facoltativa
- Greylisting e allowlisting potrebbero presto sostituire la “federazione aperta predefinita”
I moderatori sono la spina dorsale di un social web più sicuro, ma la maggior parte di loro non è retribuita, non riceve sufficiente supporto ed è costantemente sotto pressione. Se vogliamo un futuro per le piattaforme decentralizzate che rispetti l'autonomia degli utenti, la libertà di parola e l'autonomia della comunità, dobbiamo supportare l'infrastruttura che ne garantisce la sicurezza.
