How do we ensure that the #opensource components we build upon are also sustainably maintained? 🤔
@opensource organized a conference on Open Source Procurement today.
70% to 90% of all software contains open source components. 60% of those are run by 1 person. That's a fragile ecosystem.
With a purchasing volume of 116 billion euro, the Dutch gov can make an impact - if they reserve a portion of funding for open source projects in every procurement (MVOI).

@Gina "cloud" really is the ultimate argument against commercial software. Give me an annual budget of 500 million and I could easily write and maintain the needed software and run the data centers.

@gugurumbe I'm not saying people *should* use it for summarize and explore, I'm saying that's a different category of concern, if done with a local model.
However, I'll also point out you were trying to debug LaTeX, which I would argue is a nearly impossible task no matter how many resources are thrown at it ;)
