@afewbugs Great thread. I think sometimes about how many thousands of lives are saved every day by the cleaning staff at hospitals, but they never get recognition for it, since Preventing a Terrible Thing isn’t nearly as exciting as Fixing Terrible Thing (that maybe could have been prevented)

Is there a way to set recurring tasks (daily, every Wednesday etc) in #NextCloud tasks?
@afewbugs I currently use Vikunja, which absolutely has recurring tasks, but is a bit limited mobile app wise.

@kate @afewbugs if it helps you can create a recurring task in jtx Board and set it up as you wish. You can then click on "detach all instances", this would take all recurrences and make standalone entries out of them. These entries should then also show up in Nextcloud. However, keep in mind that the series is gone and you can't update all instances in one go anymore.

Because if there isn't I am developing a very strong suspicion that NextCloud developers aren't the ones who do the housework in their households
@afewbugs relatedly, I'm pretty sure the people who design kitchen and bathroom fittings and furnishings have never cleaned a bathroom or kitchen, and don't do much cooking either

As a cleaner, married to a caretaker, I can assert that architects have never had to clean or maintain a building....

@suearcher @kitten_tech my fun story about architecture is I used to work in a university building designed by a famous and award winning architect. It had a recessed light well in the roof with a glass skylight at the bottom. The problem was there was no outlet pipe at the bottom of the light well, so when it rained it filled up with water like a huge suspended swimming pool

@suearcher @kitten_tech this was obviously a somewhat alarming state of affairs for those who had to work underneath it, trusting the strength of the glass, so it was drained and a sort of greenhouse like contraption built over the top to prevent it from refilling.

@suearcher @kitten_tech This was all before my time so I didn't witness it, but we did have to live with the consequences when I was working there which were that the top floor of the building was unbearably hot every summer due to being encased in a hastily erected greenhouse

@suearcher @kitten_tech @afewbugs As a lawyer I can tell you that the IT "designers" used by the courts, CPS, solicitors and counsel, have no idea how any of us work, what information we need and in what form.
I used to be handed all the papers at court for the cases I was dealing (up to 15+) could scan them, hand them to clients to read, and go back and take instructions. Easy. Now we get it on line at court (eventually). I can't pass my laptop over can I..FFS. -

There are times when paperless works, but there are many occasions when paper really is the way to go!

If any @nextcloud developers happen to be reading this and want a feminist perspective, actually especially if they're reading and don't want a feminist perspective: there are two types of tasks, one off achievement tasks like build a website, write an article, paint a room where once it's done it's done, and recurring maintenance tasks: do the laundry, change the sheets, water the plants.
This reminds me of when I expressed surprise on their forum about the health app (now abandoned) not having an option to track menstruation. The obliviousness about the significance of that omission was disheartening.

@vfrmedia @emily_s @afewbugs If you compare to a client for the Exchange Server, you should compare with a client for Nextcloud. There is no UI for the underlaying Exchange Server. Therefore you should compare to a client like Thunderbird. There is no problem with recurring taskes generated in Thunderbird. They are syncronized with Nextcloud and other clients. Even the Tasks app for Android is capable generating recurring tasks. It is "just" Nextcloud's web UI which does not support it.

@worik You wont believe how useful automated reminders are and how often my partner encourages me to make more of them. She also uses them a lot. But yeah, it actually is useful to have for example a tri or bi-weekly recurring timed reminder to change the bedsheets etc. To be able to set them from the web interface is just neat because that's the closest to platform agnostic you can get with nearly no effort. @ljrk @afewbugs

I work in IT and just a few days ago was reflecting with somebody on how often user workflows are ignored (in the context of systems where you log in to see some protected data having poor support for showing others that data; I was congratulating them on having a good mechanism for making a share link!)

I'm writing this reply in English. Not because I chose English as my preferred language of expression, but because if I wrote it in Korean, it would either be ignored or filtered through whatever tool my interlocutor happens to have on hand—and any resulting misreading would be treated as my problem. So I write in English, carefully, to preempt that. Is that a voluntary choice? Formally, yes. Practically, it sits much closer to the “imposed” end of your spectrum than it might appear.
The contract model works cleanly when both parties have genuinely equivalent alternatives. When one party's only real options are “use this tool” or “don’t participate,” the contract framing starts to obscure more than it reveals.

@jfkimmes this does explain something: it seems to be able to invoke tools when it is planning, but then those tools do not get invoked in the final step.
so it uses tools to read files when planning, then fails to use tools when executing.
what a fascinating conundrum.

@ariadne In any case: as long as the final response is generated by your trained model it will never make a valid tool call since there are probably about zero training examples of the necessary JSON structure required by the tool handling in your furry smut (this is an estimate that could be quite the way off knowing the furry community but still)

@ariadne Oh, is that a OpenClaw specific feature where you can specify that reasoning traces are generated by a separate model than the actual response? I'm not really familiar with OpenClaw's internals.
