  • From a technical POV it is theoretically possible but not tested.

Most likely the various softwares would opt out of handling non-public content out of safety.

It is something we'd want to work on in lockstep with all the various devs 🙂

  • Sorry, i don't know if it is possible. I haven't tried/tested private community on Piefed. I recall you can add username to community. However i wanted to react on switching private community to public. There are case where you want to do that.

However, i think it is sensible and shouldn't be allowed or not decided by the mods team at least. I wouldn't recommend switching private to public is the software. Because there are thing we talk between ourselve, and they should stay that way.

Maybe, it would require to delete the whole posts and comments history. Dunno, for me it requipe people approval. Or something like mastodon that hide your post from people that aren't in your friend circle and then everyone decide for themselve whatever is the community decision.

  • Are there plans to make private communities accessible/usable without an account on the same instance ?
Is it possible to switch from private to public (and vice versa)?

  • As if multiple servers wasn't complicated enough, there are multiple apps and multiple web frontends you can use too! p.piefed.social is an installation of Photon.

Log in with your piefed.social credentials.

Like Blorp, it looks great on a phone and can be installed as a PWA.

  • Try https://b.piefed.social instead! Log in with the same username and password as piefed.social.

It works best on a phone / tablet but on a desktop it's fine too once you switch to compact mode.

It can be installed as a PWA.

There are also lots of themes you can try at https://piefed.social/user/settings. Here are some screenshots of them - https://join.piefed.social/screenshots/

  • Oh so it is, I wasn't seeing it yesterday when I checked. Perhaps unpinning and re-pinning, or removing and re-allowing the ability to show on popular fixed it and I didn't notice it.

Nonetheless, thank you for all the help!

  • Ok, it seems to be working now then. Let us know if you continue to see weirdness with the pinned posts.

  • Oh we actually unpinned the main@piefed.ca post after I confirmed it was working and made that comment. It's the other one from main@lemmy.ca that is still pinned, but doesn't show up for users that aren't logged in

Nächste: @Mastodon mit @haubles und @andypiper. 1. Discord wird durch Zulip ersetzt. Ich gucke @hakendran dabei an. ;) 2.

Hi #fediverse! I'm working on Hackers' Pub, a small #ActivityPub-powered social platform for developers and tech folks. We're currently drafting a content #moderation (#flag/#report) system and would really appreciate any feedback from those who have experience with federated moderation—we're still learning. Some ideas we're exploring: Protecting reporter anonymity while giving reported users enough context to understand and improve Graduated responses (warning → content removal → suspension) rather than jumping to bans Using LLM to help match reports to code of conduct provisions Supporting ActivityPub Flag activity for cross-instance reports Our guiding principle is that moderation should be about growth, not punishment. Expulsion is the last resort. Here's the full draft if you're curious: https://github.com/hackers-pub/hackerspub/issues/192. If you've dealt with moderation in federated contexts, what challenges did you run into? What worked well? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

I think I have identified a fairly significant flaw in how the #Fediverse currently operates. Hear me out.The Fediverse currently consists of all sorts of different systems - #Mastodon, #Friendica , #Pixelfed , #PeerTube, #BookWyrm , and so forth. And while they are all connected via the #ActivityPub protocol, they all have different functionalities and different ways of presenting themselves. Which is as it should be, because Diversity Is Our Strength(TM).However, it is here that the ActivityPub-based interactivity hits its limits - for usually, you can either experience the relevant system as it was intended, or you can interact with it, but not both - _unless_ you have an account on the same system (though not necessarily on the same instance).Let's say that you are a Mastodon user who looks at another person's BookWyrm page. You scroll through their books, posts, and comments. Then you see some comment you want to comment on yourself, but can you do so?Not directly. You need to figure out the URL of their comment, and then copy and paste that comment into the search bar of your Mastodon instance. Then it will show up in the same format as a Mastodon post, and you can interact with it - boost it, like it, comment on it.Sure, it works, but it's a whole lot of tedious effort.Or you can search for the user account in Mastodon and scroll through all their posts and comments as if they were a Mastodon user - and thus, you will miss out on all the unique user interface features of BookWyrm. So what is missing?Well, Mastodon already has an "Open original page" feature when looking at someone's post. What we need is an "Open original page AND AUTHENTICATE" feature. This way, the target instance (whatever software they are using) could acknowledge the viewer as an external user who could nevertheless fully interact with the local user interface, including the ability to boost, like, and make comments. This is something that should be theoretically possible to implement, right? #FediHelp

Unfortunately, the administrator at social.tchncs.de is a coward. It is not racism or sexism or discrimination of any kind to call out a confirmed scammer. What is happening is Gaza is awful. I have never wavered on this fact. What Israel has done to these poor people is a crime against humanity. But so is a scam trying to make itself as support. That too is an injustice.I need a site that will ignore such nonsense. When there are photos and videos proving there is a scam, and it is not just a wild claim, it should be upheld. If Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter can recognize this as a scam (with proof). Surely, so can the Fediverse. #Fediverse #ActivityPub #Mastodon #Misskey #Scam #Fraud
